Black Canary Brings the Pain in Epic Body Paint Cosplay

In an epic body paint cosplay, cosplayer @mcroft07 brings one of DC Comics' most iconic looks to life, as she becomes the Black Canary in an incredible transformation. The talented artist captures the Birds of Prey hero's classic costume in a comic-accurate cosplay featuring Black Canary's infamous leather jacket, corset, and fishnet leggings. The cosplay costume is entirely made of body paint, which is mind-boggling given the level of details shown.

In the comics, two heroes are prominently known as the Black Canary. Dinah Drake's Black Canary is one of the oldest DC Comics heroes, first appearing in Flash Comics #86 back in 1947. That version of the character played key roles in both the Justice Society and Justice League of America. Drake's daughter Dinah Lance would debut in the late 1960s and would become the most popular hero to dawn the Black Canary mantle. Lance had a similar Canary Cry to her mother and would develop a romance with Green Arrow, which would become one of comics' best pairings. The New 52 tried to amalgamate both versions into a single character, but the retcon was later reversed. Jurnee Smollett portrayed the hero in the recent Birds of Prey film in the DCU and will soon star in her own solo movie.

@mcroft07 shared her take on the Birds of Prey DC Comics' hero on her Instagram page as she recreates one of Black Canary's poses. The look brings together the classic elements of Black Canary's costume, including her gloves, leather jacket, corset, fishnets, and collar - all of which are made from body paint. The look is perfected with a blonde wig and makeup, including eye-catching red lipstick. At first glance, it's not apparent that the costume is solely made from body paint, which is honestly the highest compliment that can be paid to the creative ensemble.

The Black Canary look isn't the first incredible cosplay from @mcroft07 we've featured, as she's put together some amazing body paint costumes, including an explosive take on the X-Men's Dazzler, a fantastic version of Wonder Woman, and a stunning recreation of Gamora of Guardians of the Galaxy. We can't recommend checking out her creative body paint work enough.

Black Canary's look might not feature armor or alien features like some of her previous cosplays, but that's what makes it so impressive. The look is impeccably detailed, but its comic-accurate simplicity makes the Black Canary body paint stand out. It's ripped right out of the pages of DC Comics.
