Loki, the Marvel Cinematic Universe series on Disney+, is the story of a God-like being who is going through some things. It chronicles his journey from narcissistic destroyer to someone starting to have empathy for someone other than himself. It's a painful trip for Loki and one that is fun and touching for the viewer.
Not only is Loki blessed with great acting talent, but it also has some of the sharpest writing in the MCU with nearly every episode full of great, quotable lines. As viewers await the next season to see what happens with Loki, Sylvie, and the TVA, it's a good time to re-visit the quotes that defined the characters and the series.
Hunter B-15 is a soldier, first, foremost, and always. There are rules and she and everyone will have to follow them, no questions asked. If there are rules, then there can be no questions in her mind.
Why Mobius would want to help, much less protect a constant and flagrant rule breaker such as Loki is frankly offensive to her. Although she changed her tune later, Hunter B-15 was quick to prune any issues..
Ravonna Renslayer is the ultimate power player. She got to her position via hard work and knowing which card to play, which person to flatter, and which one to shove out of the way. She is in charge and she will remain that way if she has anything to say about it.
She demonstrates this philosophy by 'killing' Mobius and others she sees as either standing in her path or questioning the way she's doing things. She is practicing her 'free will' by enforcing what she sees as the rules.
Miss Minutes is an artificial intelligence holographic lifeform, created by He Who Remains to assist the Time Variance Authority. Miss Minutes has always known the true nature of the TVA and those who serve it.
She is there for the TVA, created for the TVA, and will always be there for the TVA, no matter who is in charge. It is literally what she was created for. She is one of Loki's best and most interesting characters.
He Who Remains is one of the most powerful characters in Loki. He was Nathaniel Richards, a man who discovered the multiverse, triggering a war between various versions of himself for control of the universe. After he was victorious he became He Who Remains and created the TVA to run the Sacred Timeline and keep the hard-won peace.
He Who Remains understands, though eons of living and working every scenario that his current version of the Timeline, the TVA and the Timekeepers, is what works and that passing that to Loki and Sylvie is the only thing that will preserve the Timeline and multiverse. He just has to convince them of that fact.
Classic Loki has seen it all in the void and has come to the realization that they are a broken people in a broken world. Trying to change that, as he did in trying to reconcile with his brother Thor will get them banished to a place like the void.
The universe Classic Loki lives in does not like change, does not like people acting against their nature and trying to right themselves. He acted unselfishly and was 'pruned' for that action and ended up stranded in the void. In the end, he again acted against the nature of all Loki's by sacrificing himself to save his friends.
Mobius M. Mobius is a guy just trying to do his job. He's laid back and likes to take things as they come. As he says here, "Nothing makes any sense" so he tries to make sense of it. That's his job, making sense of things that don't make sense. It's one of Mobius' most memorable quotes.
When he runs up against Loki, he tries to make sense of him. He pretty much has Loki's number from the beginning, pegging him as a rampant narcissist, but he also sees something in him that Loki himself cannot see. He spots some sense in him and works to make Loki see it as well.
Sylvie has serious trust issues. It makes sense that she does since she's a Loki and is well versed in betrayal and backstabbing as she's practiced both her entire life. She is asking Loki how can she trust him not to betray her, as betrayal is their nature?
Loki, at this point in his journey, would not betray Sylvie, but she doesn't know that. Trust is something that doesn't come easy with any version of Loki, and Sylvie is not in the same place in her emotional travels as is Loki of Asgard.
Loki believes he is the rightful ruler of Asgard and doesn't really understand why people would oppose his obvious right to the throne. He is 'burdened' with glorious purpose, after all, he wants everyone to know he doesn't really want the throne, but just has to 'accept' it because he's the son of Odin.
As he discovers during the run of the show, he is not the rightful ruler, he is instead a disruptive and destructive force in the world, destroying not 'ruling'. One of the biggest surprises in the series is how it is a catalog of Loki's journey from cluelessness to the discovery of his true nature and his attempt to change that nature.
