Splitgate features a wide range of weapon types for players to use. While the Portal-meets-Halo clone has similar weapons to the Halo series, there are key differences. Weapons in Splitgate are supposed to be used in different scenarios where they are most suited. However, there is a slew of ways to use each weapon. With the release of Splitgate's first season, players need to know how to use each weapon effectively.
There are seven different categories of weapons for players to use in Splitgate. In some game modes like team deathmatch, domination, and oddball weapons are scattered throughout the map at different pickup spots. The weapons will respawn a couple of minutes after being picked up by someone. Each of these weapons is most suited to different ranges and gameplay scenarios. Especially for beginner players in Splitgate, it's important to know the different types of weapons. The following weapons are available to players in Splitgate:
- Rifles (Assault Rifle, Battle Rifle, Plasma Rifle)
- Submachine guns (SMG)
- The shotgun
- Long-range rifles (Carbine and Sniper)
- The pistol
- Power weapons (Rail Gun and Rocket Launcher)
- Melee weapons (BFB and the Oddball)
Rifles are most suited for close-range to long-range battles, although they are not very accurate at long-range. They should be used in enclosed areas and on smaller, more cramped maps like Stadium. Rifles are well-suited for use as secondary weapons with either a long-range or short-range weapon as the main weapon.
Submachine guns, the shotgun, and the pistol are most efficient in Splitgate's close-range gunfights. The pistol and submachine gun have a decently long-range, but they are not very accurate from a distance. The shotgun has a predictably short range of effect, but a point-blank shot is a one-hit kill. These weapons can be paired with a long-range weapon like a sniper to balance range capabilities. They can also be paired with rifles to create a mid-to-close-range loadout.
Long-range weapons and melee weapons are the outliers when it comes to range capabilities. The sniper and carbine both have ADS scopes to zoom in on players from a long distance. However, these long-range weapons can be used in close-range for players with good aim. Just like any other FPS, players can no-scope enemies effectively with the sniper. Snipers are a one-hit headshot, but the fire rate is extremely slow. Stay aware of surroundings, and use portals to get the leg up on enemies. Getting impressive portal kills with a sniper is one of the most satisfying parts of Splitgate.
Melee weapons are used like any other melee weapon in an FPS game. Each melee weapon can hit opponents from a few meters away. The melee weapons are a one-hit kill no matter what, so be aggressive when one is equipped. Finally, power weapons are best used at mid-to-long-range due to their high-power single shot ballistics. The Rail Gun and Rocket Launcher are most suited for players with good aim, since they shoot only one projectile at a time.
Splitgate is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC.
