Nintendo is holding its new Indie World Showcase tomorrow, December 15. The last indie showcase from Nintendo this year was held back in August of 2020, where the company announced multiple new games that became popular over the next couple of weeks.
The previous Indie World Showcase announced the release date for Supergiant Games' Hades, the surprise hit that ended up getting nominated for multiple awards at The Game Awards 2020. Also at that showcase, it was announced that Untitled Goose Game would be receiving a free two-player co-op mode, adding a reason to replay the previously only single-player game, which charmed players last year.
While there haven’t been any hints as to what the games might be in the upcoming showcase, there will surely be plenty that will please indie fans of all kinds when it goes live. Nintendo announced today that the Indie World showcase will air on December 15 at 9 a.m. PT. The show is expected to run for about 15 minutes, so players won’t be waiting for new information for too long. There will be announcements from global partners, as well as the brand themselves with new titles that will come to the console within the next couple of months.
Between now and the last Indie World Showcase, Nintendo also held a mini-Direct to show off Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, along with multiple other games, all of which would be coming to Nintendo Switch soon after. Titles like the ones announced at its showcases and Directs have helped the Nintendo Switch become the best-selling video game console in November of 2020 despite the next two generations of PlayStation and Xbox being released. There are also rumors of a hybrid console for the Switch coming in 2021, the Nintendo Switch Pro, so these announcements could also bring about games that will be meant to be played on that console as well.
Some possible announcements that could be coming out soon are that a sequel to Hollow Knight is in production, so there might be an update on a release date on that. But other than that, this showcase seems like it’s going to have plenty of brand-new games for indie players to enjoy, with first reveals probably showing up during the show on Tuesday. Nintendo's previous broadcasts have been met with mixed reactions, but as the last one before the holidays, this will be the best look players have at how Nintendo plans to end this year and ring in the next.
