Doctor Strange Director & Writer Sign First-Look TV Deal With Blumhouse

Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson and writer C. Robert Cargill have signed a first-look TV deal with Blumhouse. Along with Doctor Strange, the writer and director previously collaborated with Blumhouse on the hit horror franchise Sinister, with the two films grossing over $135 million worldwide. Though Derrickson is not returning to the MCU to direct the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, he has a few other projects in the works with his frequent collaborator.

Derrickson and Cargill have inked a first-look TV deal with Blumhouse under their new production banner Crooked Highway. Under the new two-year deal, Crooked Highway will develop projects for Blumhouse TVCloverfield's Sheryl Clark will serve as President of Production at Crooked Highway. "I’m thrilled to welcome Scott, Cargill, and Sherryl into the Blumhouse family, to work with us in television," said Jason Blum. "We have had a lot of success collaborating in film, and they’ve brought some great material in to develop that we can’t wait to get in front of fans.”

The production company already has several TV projects in development with Blumhouse, including an adaptation of author Kristen Iversen’s Full Body Burden, which tells the sinister true story of the deadly Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant in Denver, Colorado. Also in development is Midnight Radio, which follows a secluded radio host who realizes his callers' various supernatural encounters are all connected. An adaptation of Simon Kurt Unsworth's The Devil's Detective, which centers around a human investigator who solves high-profile murder cases in Hell, is also in the works.

Crooked Highway and Blumhouse are also producing Derrickson's upcoming adaptation of Joe Hill's novel The Black Phone, along with Cargill on board to write. Earlier this year, Derrickson and Cargill also executive produced My Valentine, as part of Blumhouse Television's Into the Dark anthology series. Crooked Highway is also producing Maggie Levin's sci-fi thriller Retrograde.
