Alien: Isolation Is Free On Epic Games Store For Holiday Sale 2020

Alien: Isolation is now available for free on the Epic Games Store as part of its ongoing 2020 Holiday Sale. Epic has made a habit of offering up free titles on its online store, but now it has ramped up its efforts during this holiday season by including a new giveaway every day for the rest of December.

A list of these free games was recently leaked yesterday, featuring such gems as Jurassic World: Evolution, Metro 2033, and Darkest Dungeon - and so far, it’s been proven to be completely accurate. Aside from new games, Epic is also giving away limitless $10 coupons as part of this major Yuletide celebration, in addition to cutting prices on several recently released titles like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Star Wars: Squadrons. Now, Epic has revealed its latest free game of the day, and it’s sure to leave classic sci-fi horror fans filled with joy… and terror.

Right now, Creative Assembly’s 2014 survival horror hit Alien: Isolation is being offered up for free on the Epic Games Store for the rest of the day. Set 15 years after the events of the original Alien film, this dark, atmospheric title puts players in the role of Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Alien series protagonist and female sci-fi icon Ellen Ripley, as she works to uncover the truth of what happened to her mother on the doomed spaceship Nostromo. Her journey takes her to the Sevastopol space station, where she finds herself caught in a nightmare of her own in the form of a deadly game of cat and mouse with an intelligent Xenomorph that adapts to the player's actions.

Upon its release in 2014, Alien: Isolation was hailed by fans as a step in the right direction for the franchise following the disappointing Aliens: Colonial Marines only a year prior. Critics praised the game’s appropriately foreboding atmosphere and the enemy Xenomorph’s brilliant AI, even though they were less than thrilled about its formulaic plot and occasionally drawn-out length. Still, Alien: Isolation won several gaming awards in 2014, and although a proper sequel never materialized, it still managed to spawn a mobile-based spin-off, several comic book tie-ins, and even a seven-part web series years after its launch.

As such, Alien: Isolation’s inclusion as part of the Epic Games Store’s 2020 Holiday Sale is a surprising but welcome development for Alien fans that never got the chance to play it before, as well as those who wish to experience the terror of exploring the Sevastopol all over again. Now players will be able to match wits with one of sci-fi cinema’s deadliest monsters free of charge, as long as they claim Alien: Isolation on the Epic Games Store by the end of the day.
