Google Pixel November Security Update Rolling Out With Plenty Of Fixes

The Google Pixel security update for the month of November is now available, and it comes with a lot of notable fixes. Pixel users with phones running on Android 11 should be able to take advantage of the fixes soon, as the update started rolling out to devices today. In addition to the usual security fixes, the improvements also include bug fixes for several apps, audio issues, and more.

Google released the first Pixel and Pixel XL in October of 2016. Along with the voice-activated Google Assistant, other features included an AI-driven camera experience and a slightly tweaked Pixel version of Android. For buyers in 2020, Google currently offers the Pixel 5, 4a, and 4a 5G to choose from. The Pixel 5 was released on October 15 and is available now for $699. The Pixel 4a is also available to buy, priced at $349 while the Pixel 4a 5G is currently only available to pre-order. Android 11, the current version of the OS, was released this past September.

According to Google support, the November update includes a fix for a bug that prevented users from getting phone calls while using Android Auto. The update also addresses an Android runtime vulnerability in Pixel devices that could allow a malicious application to gain access to the phone. A camera fix will deal with a bug that causes the screen to wake up after the user has locked it. As for audio fixes, this update includes one for media audio stutter in certain apps, such as Spotify. Users can expect to see a fix with the system UI, which will make taking a screenshot simpler on devices with two-button access, like the Pixel 4. The update will also improve touchscreen access with certain screen protectors.

To get the update as soon as possible, Pixel phone users should first ensure they have the previous version of Android by going to Settings and then to SystemAdvanced, followed by System Update. From there, users can check which Android version they have, in addition to the security patch level. Once the phone has been updated to the most recent previous version, the same process can be used to check for the current November update. Although those users will likely receive a notification advising the current update is available with the option to tap the notification to start the updating process.

Considering how people use their phones for more and more these days, it’s even more crucial than ever to make sure a phone is secure and working properly. From online banking, to staying entertained with social media apps, improving the user experience is key. Whether it’s preventing issues with malware or making it easier to take a screenshot, this update offers a number of reasons to update a Google Pixel phone as soon as possible.
