Chantel Everett of The Family Chantel has risen to fame by sharing her marital woes on reality TV. The show has received mixed reviews from fans who accuse it of being too negative. While others might question how Chantel is able to handle revealing so much about her personal life, the TLC star believes her "crazy family" drama is normal.
Chantel and Pedro Jimeno landed their family spin-off show following their appearance on 90 Day Fiancé season four. After meeting online, the two fell in love and shocked Chantel's family when they learned Pedro arrived in Atlanta from the Dominican Republic on a 90-day visa to elope. The news wasn't well received and Chantel's family grew suspicious of Pedro's intentions. Matriarch Karen accused Pedro of using her daughter to gain American citizenship. Meanwhile, Pedro's sister hates Chantel and stops at nothing to break up her brother's marriage. Now, in season two, The Family Chantel has received a number of negative reviews from fans who say the show portrays a poor family image on television.
However, despite the criticism, Chantel is defending her family's reality show due to how "normal" she feels family drama actually is. The TLC couple spoke with The Associated Press and explained why their show isn't too out of the ordinary. "I feel like it's normal to have so much crazy drama in one's life," Chantel said. "I feel like if you follow around anybody you're going to see their ups and downs and some things they wouldn't want you to see." Since starring in their own spin-off, fans have seen the family battle it out with each other...literally. Pedro was involved in a fistfight with Chantel's younger brother and Chantel was in a drink-tossing match with a woman Nicole tried to set Pedro up with, not to forget the shade-throwing sessions between Chantel and Pedro's mothers.
"Every family has their problems. But, The Family Chantel is on another level," Pedro admitted. "The craziness level is at a high level." Chantel backed up her husband while jokingly adding, "90 percent of the family going to a high level is Pedro."
The family definitely has its fair share of scandal. More recently, Chantel accused her sister-in-law of using her new boyfriend, Alejandro, to gain citizenship to the States. With Nicole's new man living in New York, there is a possibility Chantel is right. But even though their drama hardly seems normal, it's clear Chantel and Pedro aren't worried about airing out their dirty laundry on TV.
The Family Chantel airs Mondays at 9 pm ET on TLC.
