In a new The Mandalorian season 2 poster, Star Wars reveals an official look at Cobb Vanth wearing Boba Fett's armor. Played by Timothy Olyphant, the character - also known as the Marshal of Mos Pelgo - debuted in the season 2 premiere episode of the Star Wars live-action series where he teamed up with Din Djarin to defeat a Krayt Dragon.
After receiving his current mission from the Armorer at the end of The Mandalorian season 1, Din is on a journey to reunite Baby Yoda with his people. Instead of looking for Jedi, however, he is currently tracking down his fellow Mandalorians in the hopes that they can guide him in his current endeavor. This game plan led him back to Tatooine where he reunited with Peli Moto, as well as met Cobb Vanth, who immediately made an impression as he was sporting Boba Fett's iconic Mandalorian armor.
Days after The Mandalorian season 2 premiere that debuted Olyphant's character, Disney and Lucasfilm officially release Cobb Vanth's character poster, in which he wears Boba Fett's Armor. The one-sheet has the same format as the previously released posters that focused on familiar characters such as Din, Cara Dune, and Greef Karga. Check out the image below.
Olyphant's involvement in The Mandalorian was was previously reported, but it was never confirmed who he would portray until his appearance in the series. Fans of tie-in Star Wars materials immediately knew who Cobb Vanth is with his story playing out in the books. That said, Lucasfilm didn't exactly adopt what's been established in print on The Mandalorian. The season 2 premiere briefly explained how Cobb Vanth acquired Boba Fett's armor, but it's different from what's revealed in the books. Instead, he supposedly got it from Jawas who salvaged the suit. Whether or not he's lying to Din about this is unknown, but for what it's worth, he appears to be trustworthy during the time he spent with Mando.
The confirmation that Boba Fett is alive poses the question of why he didn't take back his armor from Cobb Vanth. At the end of The Mandalorian season 2 premiere, the suit was given to Din as part of his deal with the Marshal with regard to taking down the Krayt Dragon. With his suit now with Mando, it will be interesting to see if he'll finally retrieve it or if he'll just let it stay with Din. Regardless, what's clear is that Boba Fett is set to factor more prominently in the upcoming episodes as it would seem such a waste to re-introduce him if they didn't have a specific plan for the character. As for Vanth, it's curious if he will ever don the suit or even appear in the show again. Considering the positive reception to his character in The Mandalorian season 2 premiere, it would be a shame not to see him back for more adventures, especially considering the great rapport he had with Mando in the brief time they were together.
The Mandalorian season 2 continues Friday, November 6 on Disney+.
