The GameHERs Awards Nominations Are Now Open, Here's How To Vote

In a first for the gaming community, the gameHers Awards will be happening on November 19, 2020 and the nominations are now open. Created by women for all women gamers and game fans, this award show will mark a seismic step in a typically male dominated field.

The gameHers formed in May of this year as an online community dedicated to celebrating all women in gaming, and includes cosplayers, streamers, and other content creators. Since the group's start only seven months ago, the gameHers has garnered a strong following with its online presence. The gameHers Instagram page alone boasts a whopping 24,000 followers, and the group's blog is regularly updated with features on everything from mental health and inclusion to Dungeons & Dragons. Now, the gameHers Awards is taking things to the next level (pun absolutely intended).

The gameHers has announced on Instagram the very first gameHers award show. An eight-week extravaganza of online events and discussions with prominent ladies in the gaming industry (including cosplayer Shellanin like Melanin aka Curly Cosplay) will celebrate the passion and joy that video games give to so many. This eight-week event will end with a live streamed award show on November 19 on the gameHers’ Twitch channel. But before then, fans can nominate the women they'd like to see on the gameHers' website.

With five categories, and five awards within each category, there is endless potential to recognize the exceptional women in the gaming community. The gameHers awards cover the streamers on Twitch and Facebook as well as teams that have played to raise money for some amazing charities. For cosplay fans, there is also an award for the Top Cosplayer of the Year. No area of the video game industry is going unnoticed. Unlike other gaming awards shows like The Game Awards, this ceremony honors not just the people who make games, but also those who take part in all the creative outlets that surround gaming.

The gaming community has been making strides toward treating the women in the community better recently, but as with everything there is always room for improvement. The gameHers Awards show, and the hard work being put in behind the scenes by the gameHers community, is a great step forward in continuing this progress. Everyone can make their votes count and be part of something truly historic in the gaming community.
