Hidden away in the DLC options for Marvel's Avengers is a high resolution texture pack that greatly upgrades the visuals in the game, although many players might not even be aware that it exists. Those who purchased the deluxe edition of the game have been able to get early access this week, meaning that plenty of players are already experiencing Marvel's Avengers across a variety of platforms.
Marvel's Avengers is an online-focused collaboration between Marvel and Square Enix, with development duties handled by Crystal Dynamics. Set in an alternate timeline to the MCU franchise, it sees players control different superheroes following the dissolution of the Avengers. With no alliance of heroes protecting Earth, a robotic paramilitary force takes control, prompting the likes of Captain America, Thor, and Ms. Marvel to reunite and fight back against AIM. Little else has been publicly revealed about the story, with the developer asking fans to refrain from posting spoilers online in the weeks following its release.
Marvel's Avengers has a hidden high resolution texture pack, allowing players to play with enhanced graphics. According to The Gamer, the secretive download is tucked away in the DLC section of the game's Steam page, meaning that many users might not even know that it exists. However, it can be easily accessed in the Steam Library by right-clicking on Marvel's Avengers and navigating to properties. The file is a meaty 26.7 GB in size but seems to significantly increase the quality of textures for both characters and the environment. To take advantage of the high resolution texture pack, users will need a pretty good PC, as the minimum system requirements are higher when the pack is enabled.
Even after the release of Marvel's Avengers, fans will still get plenty of new content in the form of DLC. Crystal Dynamics has already announced that Hawkeye and Kate Bishop will be made available shortly after launch. More superhero characters are expected to follow in the coming weeks and months. Data miners have uncovered files in the beta build of the game that mention that characters such as Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Ant-Man could make an appearance in the near future.
Many games now feature special additional texture packs that players can download separately. They make sense as it allows those with access to better hardware to improve their game's visuals but doesn't take up valuable hard drive space for those who can't take advantage of them. But it is strange that Square Enix has not really promoted the high resolution texture pack for Marvel's Avengers, especially when there was so much uproar about the game's graphics when it was first revealed.
Marvel's Avengers will be available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia on September 4th, 2020, on Xbox Series X in November 2020, and on PS5 in Q4 2020.
