With season 6 of Call of Duty: Warzone on the horizon, it seems possible that the upcoming iteration of the Verdansk map will include an underground subway system, of all things. The map itself is already massive, with expansive urban and natural verticality, highly detailed and mazelike interiors, and a versatile pool of vehicles, all of which are altered and tweaked as Infinity Ward moves the battle royale standalone ahead.
Since the release of Call of Duty: Warzone back in March 2020, Verdansk has gone through a few changes meant to enhance the dynamism of the primarily battle royale map: the explosive opening of the stadium area, the inclusion of an Apex Legends style train chugging through the landscape, and the now accessible bunkers strewn across the map. With Infinity Ward's cryptic way of teasing Warzone changes to players, it's anyone's guess as to how exactly Verdansk will change further.
However, according to a recent VGC report and a number of screenshots pulled from various leaks, it appears as though Verdansk's existing subway stations will be unlocked and potentially linked to form a subterranean subway system - potentially, a working one. Also, given that the latest Call of Duty League 2020 Season stream included an additional subway station not included in the current build of the game, the extent of the subway system may be more expansive than what's currently in game.
The addition of an underground subway system could add an entirely new level of strategy, loot, and lore to the Verdansk map, whether it allows for players to use the system to sneak behind those above, or allows those above to potentially trap those beneath. While the Call of Duty: Warzone map already has a train, it remains to be seen whether or not this new subway and existing above-ground railways will interact on any meaningful level. Also, who knows what level of teasers or easter eggs might be hidden in this underground system.
With the season 6 update to come sometime in late September and the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War slated for November, it's possible that this potential addition of a subway system could become the first concrete way that the current Call of Duty: Warzone map and the upcoming Black Ops entry interact. So far, this all speculation without any confirmation from Infinity Ward, but any new addition to Verdansk is sure to enhance gameplay on the already well-established battle royale map.
