Demon's Souls Is PS5 Exclusive; Sony Backtracks PC Release

Demon's Souls is confirmed to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive launch title, despite a trailer at today's PS5 showcase mistakenly saying it was coming to other consoles and PC. The PS5 is set to have plenty of exclusives throughout the early years of its lifespan, but some of the big names (like Horizon Forbidden West and Spider-Man: Miles Morales) are confirmed to be coming to PS4 as well.

The PS5 reveal event earlier this summer announced that a remake of Demon's Souls was coming to the PS5Demon's Souls was the game that spawned the Soulslike genre. The fact that it was a PS3 exclusive prompted From Software to make the Dark Souls series, which was free to have the same style of gameplay while also being multiplatform. Demon's Souls is still considered to be one of the best PS3 exclusives of all time.

The remake of Demon's Souls was originally announced as a PS5 exclusive, but new information seemingly put that into doubt. A new trailer for the game was shown during the PS5 Showcase event, where it was revealed that the game will be a PS5 launch title. A trailer from Sony was uploaded to YouTube and later taken down, which ended with a message saying the game was coming to PC and other consoles. A copy of the incorrect trailer can be seen on the Game Trailers YouTube channel. Sony has since reached out to Kotaku - one of the outlets that reported on the message in the trailer - and confirmed that Demon's Souls is still a PS5 exclusive and the information in the trailer was incorrect.

The PS5's launch line-up has already been shaken by Spider-Man: Miles Morales becoming cross-gen, but Demon Soul's becoming multiplatform could have been a much more impactful loss for the system's first year. Sony needs to give people reasons to buy the system and a remake of Demon's Souls is a great one, even if it's not quite the same draw as Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

From Software's games are a draw for any console, and the company already has a major project for next-gen systems, with the mysterious Elden Ring in the works. It seems that Sony wants to keep Demon's Souls under the same restrictions as the original version of the game, which means that the PS5 will have at least one killer app in its launch line-up.
