Elden Ring Fans Shouldn't Get Hopes Up For Xbox Games Showcase

Unfortunately for fans hoping for an Elden Ring reveal at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase this July, an industry reporter who has been extremely accurate with predictions historically has also suggested there won't be an update from From Software during the event. Elden Ring is approaching mythological status thanks to the initial fan excitement generated over a new From Software IP being made in collaboration with Game of Thrones' George R. R. Martin being tempered by virtually no news on the game since. It's gotten so bad that Elden Ring fans have taken to inventing lore in their spare time while the game's subreddit makes memes about how there will never be new information.

A recent rumor brought hope to the potential for an Elden Ring reveal during Xbox Games Showcase thanks to some admittedly optimistic interpretation of Xbox boss Phil Spencer's recent comments. Spencer had recently been speaking more about how important Xbox's relationship with Japanese studios and fans will be, and how noted how fans were excited about titles coming from Japan in particular. Since From Software is a Japanese studio - and Elden Ring fans are starved for information - one thing led to another, and suddenly there were rumors swirling about a potential Elden Ring trailer coming to Xbox Games Showcase later this week.

Unfortunately, a trustworthy source in industry reporter Jeff Grubb has now doused those fanned flames quite thoroughly with a two-tweet gut punch to Elden Ring fans. Grubb - who has been the source of several rumors in past months, some of which have already been verified to be true while others await confirmation - stated on Twitter that "there's a better chance of Bakugan than Elden Ring on Thursday." Besides being a funny nod to the disappointing Nintendo Direct that provided a tepid surprise with a new Bakugan game, it's also a very confident proclamation that there will be no Elden Ring at Xbox Games Showcase July after all.

While Grubb isn't guaranteed to be right, there's at least strong reason to believe his prediction, as his called shots for digital presentations this year in particular have been accurate. He's also not one to manipulate fan reaction on social media to generate a buzz, so for him to assert Elden Ring is a longshot for the Xbox Games Showcase means it probably is.

That's rough news for Elden Ring fans, who will have to go back to hoping for a surprise reveal somewhere else during a busy digital presentation schedule this summer. Without risking giving the already hard done by Elden Ring community too much hope, there's at least a small possibility Grubb is either wrong or has had the information on an Elden Ring Xbox reveal - which would be huge news - hidden from him. Just don't count on it.

Elden Ring is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Fans are beginning to wonder if it was just a fever dream, however.
