Audiences can relate to the "boy next door" character of Matthew, who also shows that with hard work, anything is possible. Here are 10 things fans love about Matthew Casey.

10 He Loves Deeply

There's no doubt that Matthew Casey has a great capacity to love. Remember Hallie Thomas, Matthew's sweetheart from season 1? He's among those on the scene to help at a fire at a clinic where Hallie works part-time. He not only helps to pull her out to safety, he also supports her in the hospital, staying by her side.

Unfortunately, Hallie doesn't make it, but Matthew's heart and capacity to love is shown through his heroic devotion to her. Even after she passes away, he continues to demonstrate his love and faithfulness towards her by investigating the circumstances around the fire at the clinic.

9 He Adores Children

Matthew Casey loves kids and this is evident time and time again, including in his determination to have a child with Gaby, and then in his willingness to adopt, should pregnancy not be an option.

In season 4, he also shows loyalty to a student, Victor, whom he and Chief Boden personally walk to school when Victor is under threat from a gang leader. This heart for children is one of the reasons viewers love him so much.

8 He Is Brave

A life-threatening fire at a clinic where Hallie works part-time doesn't intimidate Chicago Fire's sweetheart, Matthew. He goes into the flames, coming out later with girlfriend Hallie. Sadly, she doesn't make it, despite hospital treatment. However, the rescue scene confirms Matthew's bravery.

Later in the show, he is awarded for demonstrating courage in his work for the community, with his heroic acts being acknowledged by his colleagues.

This angers Casey as he realizes the injustice and alternative agenda in Pridgen's actions.
