90 Day Fiancé: Cast Members Who Probably Regret Doing The Show

The 90 Day Fiancé franchise has jump-started the careers of numerous Internet personalities, and some alums have discovered that the drawbacks of 90DF reality fame outweigh the benefits. Dozens of cast members have become public figures since the franchise first debuted in 2014, and a lot of them have gotten married, broken up, and aired their dirty laundry for audiences. While the franchise has undeniably been profitable for many personalities, some 90 Day Fiancé cast members likely regret appearing on the show.

During the past seven years of extended franchise content, a number of cast members have been labeled villains. Becoming a controversial franchise celeb sets the stage for ridicule and scorn, and it may even lead to death threats. Though many reality TV stars thrive on being in the spotlight and receiving attention, whether it's good or bad, others appear to regret putting their lives on display. Many cast members lived very private lives before appearing on the show, and they weren't prepared for the judgment and bullying they were going to get once they became famous.

Numerous 90 Day Fiancé personalities have experienced the pitfalls of reality fame due to their appearances on franchise shows. While some 90 Day Fiancé cast members are despised, others are actually pitied. Many cast members have been accused of being naive or delusional in their relationships, as their partners seemed to "play" them in front of the world. Being treated that way can be very embarrassing, and those types of situations have caused a host of 90DF personalities to reconsider their roles in the franchise. In some cases, they choose to duck the spotlight.

Ellie Rose from 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way is part of one of the newest romances featured in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. However, many viewers believe that her romance with Colombian man Victor McLean would have been better off scrapped in the editing room. As a kindhearted widow, American Ellie came across as sympathetic and likable. However, she was also accused of being naive and foolish when it came to her relationship.

Ellie was hopelessly devoted to Victor, and supported him emotionally and financially, despite his ruthless cheating. She chose to uproot her life to move to the tiny island of Providencia, despite his confirmed infidelity. The couple was then slammed for their boring plotline. Viewers think the couple lacks a romantic spark, and they ended up being mostly written out of season 3. Few viewers could see what Ellie gained from airing her lackluster love story.

Andrew Kenton dated French beauty Amira Lollysa on season 8, which led to Andrew being blasted by viewers when he enjoyed a Mexican resort trip while Amira was detained. After the couple split up, Andrew tried his hardest to ruin Amira’s reputation. However, all Andrew did was make himself a villain and cause angry fans to look into his family daycare business. Andrew might enjoy the attention that came from his franchise appearance, but airing his bad behavior made him and his mother the target of angry online fans who disliked the way he treated Amira.

Varya Malina appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days with a man who is now the most infamous person in the franchise, Geoffrey Paschel. Varya and Geoffrey faced a messy love triangle that led to viewers alleging the duo secretly wed sometime since. Appearing on 90 Day Fiancé made Geoffrey’s recent domestic assault conviction national news, which has caused viewers to express their anger towards the American man who abused his ex-girlfriend. Varya has opened herself up to intense fan backlash and criticism due to her vocal support of the convicted abuser. Many viewers believe that Varya never should have left Russia to pursue Geoffrey.

Michael Jessen is one 90 Day Fiancé cast member who is dealing with a divorce this year, after his split from Juliana Custodio. The older American first had his relationship with Brazilian model Juliana slammed due to their large age gap. Michael was then painted as a villain in their split after he passive-aggressively announced their separation on their second wedding anniversary. Juliana clapped back to call Michael out and quickly earned the full support of viewers. However, the recent news that Juliana is pregnant with her new boyfriend’s baby has muddied the narrative. At the same time, viewers can’t see what Michael gained by airing his relationship troubles. At this point, even his children are being harassed by fans.

Ashley Martson is another cast member who saw her age-gapped relationship implode in front of viewers. Ashley and Jay Smith married in season 6 and many viewers thought the American mother was foolish for thinking the young Jamaican man wanted to be a stepfather. Indeed, viewers were correct, as Ashely discovered Jay was on Tinder shortly after their Las Vegas wedding, and he showed zero interest in helping raise her children. Ashley has made great strides to distance herself from the franchise following her failed marriage to Jay, as she opened up about disliking the way she was portrayed publicly on reality TV.

Mark Shoemaker disturbed viewers with his season 3 relationship with Nikki Shoemaker. Viewers were upset that 58-year-old American Mark married 18-year-old Filipina Nikki. All four of Mark’s adult children were older than his new wife, and viewers were further weirded out by the controlling way Mark treated Nikki, as though she were a child. Mark became internationally ridiculed by popular YouTube personality PewDiePie for pursuing someone so much younger than him, which led to plenty of people calling out their relationship.

The backlash got so bad that Mark and Nikki then decided to sue TLC for breaking written promises. The couple eventually dismissed their lawsuit and have since completely disappeared from the public eye following the intense fan responses. Despite their silence, many franchise fans have continued to worry about Nikki and slam Mark for being a controlling partner. Mark’s daughter Elise has also publicly called out her father online. Overall, Mark has the most to regret, since his appearance in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise completely tarnished his reputation.
