Caroline isn't afraid to speak her mind in The Vampire Diaries, and her lack of a filter makes it difficult for her to connect with others at the beginning of the show. While Bonnie and Elena don't take her seriously, Caroline has a tendency to say things before thinking them through.
However, it makes Caroline one of the most relatable characters, as she often voices what her friends don't have the courage to. Caroline's insults may lack finesse, but they add to the humor that fans of The Vampire Diaries come to depend on. There are plenty of villains who deserve her shady burns, and some of Caroline's quips stand out above the rest.
For the most part, talking to Klaus is the same as talking to a wall. He only cares about himself and furthering his own agenda. There's no use appealing to his sense of compassion because Klaus prioritizes his wants and needs above everything else.
Caroline does her best to reason with Klaus, but there reaches a point when it becomes a waste of energy. Klaus may have a soft spot for Caroline, but he's so infuriated by her comment that he gives her the fatal werewolf bite. He does heal her, but Klaus clearly doesn't take to this burn too kindly.
This is only one of several times that Caroline says everything fans are thinking in The Vampire Diaries. It's unlikely she would've made the remark had her humanity been on, but her comment still rings true.
Whether fans love or hate Elena, the world appears to revolve around her. Elena is selfless at heart and does whatever it takes to protect those around her. However, she's used to being the center of attention. Even when Elena isn't involved in a situation, she finds a way to insert herself unnecessarily.
Although they've known each other for years, Matt has never been Caroline's biggest fan. It can easily be attributed to him not making an effort to understand her, as his dislike for Caroline appears shallow and surface-level. When the two finally spend time together one-on-one, Matt discovers that Caroline isn't who he thought she was.
Rather than addressing the shift between them, Matt ignores it and acts as though nothing happened. It's understandably frustrating for Caroline, and the "hey" he keeps giving her really does "reek of awkward subtext." Thankfully, Caroline isn't afraid to get things out into the open.
Enzo had the potential to be one of Caroline's best love interests in The Vampire Diaries, despite their relationship never exceeding a flirtation. The two are opposites in many ways, but a connection forms between them, regardless. Enzo is consistently amused by Caroline's insults, even when they're directed at him.
When Enzo and Caroline team up to kill Tom and save Stefan, Enzo doesn't understand why it's so difficult for Caroline to kill a human. She reintroduces herself to help Enzo understand why she doesn't enjoy taking innocent lives as he does.
Their over-the-top personalities and high entertainment value make Klaus and Caroline one of the best ships in The Vampire Diaries. No matter how many horrible things Klaus does to those she cares about, Caroline can't seem to give up on the Original hybrid.
When Klaus thinks he has part of a white oak stake stuck in his back, she attempts to help him get it out. However, Caroline makes it clear that she still isn't Klaus's biggest fan. She feigns shock after seeing his heart as a way to call Klaus out on his cruelty.
Out of all of the characters, Damon is Caroline's favorite target. While viewers don't actually hear Caroline say the line, Damon uses it to emphasize how much she dislikes him. Given how he treated her in The Vampire Diaries Season 1, Damon deserves Caroline's hostility more than anyone.
Each jab Caroline throws at him is justified, which causes them to be comedic rather than hurtful. Damon disses out insults more than anyone else, and Caroline is the only one who can return the favor and match his level of snark.
Caroline takes everything she does seriously, and she's unimpressed when Stefan and Elena aren't wearing the desired attire for her "Sexy Suds" carwash. Rather than wearing bathing suits like everyone else, the couple shows up to the event fully clothed.
However, it results in an adorable moment between Stefan and Elena. It doesn't take long for Stefan to get used to Caroline's antics, and they both know better than to disobey an order from Caroline Forbes. Elena struggles to get off her sweatshirt and Stefan steps in to help.
Caroline doesn't mess around when it comes to parties and there's no one more suited to plan them. While her delegating is what keeps things running smoothly, Caroline doesn't address others as politely as she should.
She barks orders without so much as a "please" or "thank you" and the events of Season 4 Episode 7, "My Brother's Keeper" only highlights her discourtesy. But, in Caroline's defense, the orchestra benefits from picking up the pace. She doesn't have the best methods, but Caroline always gets the best results.
Klaus and Caroline have the funniest scenes in The Vampire Diaries, due to their snarky banter. Even if Caroline is impressed, she refuses to let Klaus have the satisfaction of knowing it. Their dynamic undergoes a massive shift during The Originals, but Caroline thrives off of poking the bear.
She's the only one safe from Klaus's rage and calls him out when he needs it most. With the attraction between them more apparent than ever, Caroline tries extra hard to hide it through hostility. Yet, she doesn't say anything that isn't true. It's hard to imagine Klaus having a real friend given how easily he turns on those closest to him.
Elena and Bonnie don't treat Caroline as well as they should during the beginning of the series, so some of her snarkiness feels deserved. They constantly belittle and leave her out of important conversations, making Caroline feel excluded from their friend group.
Although Elena and Bonnie have both seen proof of the supernatural, Caroline is in the dark. It's unreasonable for Bonnie to use Caroline's initial reaction against her, rather than making an effort to help her understand. Caroline's comment isn't the nicest, but it's easy to understand why she's lashing out at her friends.
