Marvel Reveals Ultron's Version Of The Death Star Is So Much Worse

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Marvel's What If...? episode 8, "What If...Ultron Won?"

In Marvel's What If...?, Ultron has created his own version of Star Wars' Death Star, though it's much more powerful in its destructive capabilities. Operating in a timeline where Ultron defeated the Avengers and nuked the world, episode 8 of the animated series sees Ultron expanding his goals beyond his version of peace for Earth, defeating Thanos and taking the Infinity Stones to conquer the universe. As such, he soon creates massive armies of drones and a large orbital base resembling the Empire's "fully armed and operational" battle station.

In Marvel's What If...?, Ultron succeeded in uploading his consciousness into the synthezoid body that was meant to become Vision by using the Mind Stone. This granted the sinister AI the advantage he needed to defeat the Avengers and win, beginning his age of dark peace by destroying humanity. However, when Thanos arrived with the remaining Stones for his own conquest, he was instantly killed by Ultron, who took the powerful Stones for himself. This expanded and evolved his consciousness, and he was then motivated to begin new conquest: seeking to bring his corrupted brand of peace to the universe at large.

Thanks to his new power with the Infinity Stones, Ultron created a massive army of drones out of thin air, while also fashioning a massive and imposing battle station, resembling the Empire's Death Star from the original trilogy of Star Wars films. However, while the Death Star had the power to destroy a planet using a large laser powered by kyber crystals, Ultron's battle station was powered by the Infinity Stones, making it much more destructive as the AI began his work destroying every world in the Marvel Universe such as Asgard, Xandar, the Sovereign and more. Not only did the laser come from Ultron himself with what seemed like no charge time in comparison to the Death Star, but Ultron's battle station can presumedly do and become anything he requires it to be thanks to the Stones, making it much darker than the two Death Stars constructed by the Empire to control the galaxy.

While Ultron's battle station is much more powerful than the Death Star, it should be noted that it's simply an extension of Ultron himself, who has plenty of power on his own with or without it. With the Infinity Stones in his possession, Ultron has become the most powerful cosmic being in his universe, so much so that he soon becomes aware of the universes beyond his own and the Watcher who observes them all. As a result, Ultron breaking through and facing the Watcher saw the episode leaving the battle station behind, despite its impressive status as part of his universal conquest now that he's discovered the multiverse itself.

What's also fun is that the Death Star comparison is made in-universe when Black Widow and Hawkeye were searching for a means to defeat Ultron (being the last surviving Avengers). Looking through the KGB's files, Hawkeye himself made a Star Wars reference about the "Death Star plans not being in the main computer" signifying that he and Natasha recognized the similarities to a galaxy far, far away. All in all, making comparisons to the Death Star to show Ultron's power is pretty entertaining in this alternate timeline despite his battle station being much more powerful.
