Genshin Impact 2.2 Livestream Date & Time Set For This Week

Genshin Impact developer MiHoYo has announced the date and time for its 2.2 update livestream. The “special program” livestreams of Genshin Impact are always a point of interest for the game’s fans, as they are usually where MiHoYo unveils the new content that will be coming to the game in the next update, whose release date is also generally confirmed during the event. This usually follows a few weeks after the livestream.

Genshin Impact is currently celebrating its first anniversary, which is unfortunately turning out to be a less than joyous occasion due to the rewards MiHoYo has decided to give out to celebrate the event. Apart from several contests that were held across the past month that did arguably award the winners with some great prizes, such as an iPad and iPhone, the rewards from the rest of the anniversary’s events were found to be relatively lackluster. The community’s disappointment has even led to Genshin Impact getting review-bombed on the Google Play store.

MiHoYo announced the schedule for its next “special program” on the official Genshin Impact Twitter account while also unveiling the title for the game’s 2.2 update, which will be “Into the Perilous Labyrinth of Fog.” As for the date and time of the livestream, which can be viewed on Genshin Impact’s Twitch channel, it will be held on October 3, 2021, and will start at 08:00 AM (UTC-4/EST). Apart from the livestream's schedule and the 2.2 update's title, the image accompanying the announcement also all but confirms that Thoma will be arriving in the 2.2 update, as a chibi version of the character has been included in the image alongside the Traveler siblings, Aether and Lumine.

The title of Genshin Impact’s 2.2 update, “Into the Perilous Labyrinth of Fog,” also teases the last island that’s yet to be unlocked in the game’s Inazuma region. Known as Tsurumi Island, it was initially unveiled in the game's 1.6 update livestream last May and is described as being surrounded by a dense fog. The lore states that it has been years since anyone has gone to visit it, a description that fits the 2.2 update’s title rather aptly.

With all the backlash that MiHoYo is currently facing due to Genshin Impact's anniversary event rewards, it’s somewhat disappointing that it would announce a new livestream rather than address its ongoing issues first. It is perfectly possible that the developer plans to announce something to alleviate the negativity that has arisen from the Genshin Impact anniversary celebration, so fans will have to wait for later this week to find out if MiHoYo has something more than just the game’s 2.2 update to talk about in the livestream.
