The details and release date for the Jungle Cruise Blu-ray have been released. After past efforts like Pirates of the Caribbean and Tomorrowland, Disney once again looked to its amusement parks for inspiration and created Jungle Cruise. The movie itself was in development for several years, but only recently kicked off its voyage with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt at the helm. Jungle Cruise, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, arrived in theaters and on Disney+ via Premier Access at the end of July and has so far appeared to be a win for the studio.
The film follows Blunt's Dr. Lily Houghton as she enlists skipper Frank Wolff (Johnson) to ferry her up river and aid in her search for a mythical tree with unparalleled healing properties. After earning mixed-to-positive reviews, Jungle Cruise earned a better than expected $35 million domestic opening and an additional $30 million from Disney+. As a result, Johnson confirmed sequel talks have already begun, though nothing has been officially greenlit just yet. Currently, Jungle Cruise's global box office total stands at $154.3 million.
On Monday, Disney unveiled the full details for Jungle Cruise's home release. The adventure flick will arrive on all major digital platforms later this month on August 31. However, it won't be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD until November 16. The special features include 11 deleted scenes, behind the scenes featurettes, and bloopers. Plus, there will be a special "Expedition Mode" for audiences to discover. The features vary depending on product and retailer. The full details are as follows:
Jungle Cruise Expedition Mode – Climb aboard a ramshackle tramp steamer (or your own couch) to learn fun facts, discover Easter eggs and catch some pop-up trivia throughout the movie.
It’s A Jungle Out There: Making Jungle Cruise – Director Jaume Collet-Serra, the cast and crew discuss the importance of the film's elements, from casting to makeup to the use of an ancient indigenous language, in creating the world that honors one of Disneyland's most beloved rides.
Dwayne And Emily: Undoubtedly Funny – Go on-set with the two stars, whose newfound friendship helped them project a natural onscreen chemistry. Although their characters challenge each other throughout the film, the actors make each other laugh. A lot!
Creating The Amazon – Explore the cinematic artistry involved in creating the world of “Jungle Cruise,” including how Frank's boat coursed “dangerous” water in a tank in Atlanta, how a town was built in Kauai, and how a ferocious jaguar came to life, among other amazing effects.
Once A Skip, Always A Skip – Join a panel of “Skippers” at the Disneyland Resort as they reminisce about the rewards, challenges and surprises they’ve experienced while helming the world-famous “Jungle Cruise” attraction, and hear their advice to aspiring skippers everywhere!

Jungle Cruise is already a pretty jam-packed movie, so it's interesting to see it has so many deleted scenes. Some of them could be merely extensions of scenes from the movie itself, like "The Backside of Water," but others could reveal new details about the characters, like "Frank Talks To Proxima & Lily's Nightmares." Additionally, those who have come to appreciate Blunt and the Rock's real life friendship should get a kick out of the featurette dedicated solely to them; it appears Disney knows they've found a special pairing.
The quick turnaround for Jungle Cruise's digital release isn't too surprising, seeing as the coronavirus pandemic has brought about a drastic decrease in the theatrical window. Also, since Jungle Cruise is already technically available at home via Disney+, the studio might not be too concerned about sending it home early. At-home sales can also further demonstrate if there's interest in more Jungle Cruise, which could then push along those sequel talks. Johnson so far seems eager for more, but audiences have to show they are as well to get Disney invested. Only time will tell what the future holds.
