John And The Hole Trailer Teases Michael C. Hall's Twisted Thriller

This first trailer for the upcoming psychological thriller John and the Hole has been released. Starring Michael C. Hall (Dexter) and Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story), the film's synopsis is described as a coming-of-age psychological thriller about a 13-year-old boy who holds his family captive in a hole underground. The film's script was written by NicolĆ”s Giacobone, who won an Oscar for writing the 2014 feature Birdman. This will be the directorial debut for up-and-coming Spanish filmmaker Pascual Sisto.

IFC Films released the first trailer for John and the Hole, teasing viewers with an unsettling glimpse into the film's ominous setup. With only a sprinkle of dialogue, the few words exchanged seem to be loaded with meaning. The trailer appears to be exposing a film that takes the concept of rite of passage and forces viewers to look at it through a more creepy, chilling pair of lenses. The seemingly troubled boy John, played by Charlie Shotwell (The Nest), doesn't seem to be much of a boy at all. Throughout the trailer's tense buildup, mixed with an escalating score full of deep synth sounds, there's the sense that somewhere between childhood and adulthood lies something horrifying in between—adolescence.
