The Mother of Galactus is Coming To Marvel Comics | Screen Rant

Warning! Spoilers for Defenders #2 by Marvel Comics below.

The mother of Galactus is coming to the pages of Marvel Comics, as she is set to appear in the upcoming Defenders miniseries from Al Ewing and Javier Rodriguez. The Devourer of World's family has rarely been mentioned in the cosmic juggernaut's stories, and now, his mother will be making their first appearance in a story that expands on the supervillain's parentage.

Despite being a fixture in Marvel stories for more than 45 years, Galactus' family hasn't been an integral part of his story, as his life before becoming the planet-eating villain sparsely focused on his early origins. Galactus was originally Galan of Taa, who was the sole survivor of his planet getting destroyed during the birth of the multiverse. Agreeing to a deal with the living embodiment of the Sixth Cosmos in order to survive, Galan became Galactus, whose purpose was to devourer planets to keep balance in the universe, while continue living. In different comics, Galactus' wife (Aala) and daughter (Gali) have appeared, but in current continuity, his original family is a big question mark for the iconic Jack Kirby and Stan Lee creation.

Ewing and Rodriguez's Defenders miniseries will build on the stories told in Marvel Comics #1000, focusing on the titular team battling against threats across the universe. The roster features Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer, and the Masked Raider. In a new preview for Defenders #2, the solicit teases the arrival of a number of characters, including the mother of Galactus. Check out the cover for the issue starring the cosmic giant and the Defenders by Rodriguez below.

The solicit reveals the Defenders are set to find themselves in the birthplace of Galactus. But, when they meet the Devourer of Worlds, he'll be a notably different version of the villain they've come used to battling. Along the way, they will also come face-to-face with Taaia (presumably the name for Galactus' mother) as well as another new character called Omnimax. Described as a dangerous mission, the issue is said to "expand the cosmos" in the Marvel Universe.

Are the Defenders traveling through time to encounter Galactus' human form on Taa? Or, has Galactus changed into something even scarier than the Devourer of Worlds? No matter what the answer is, it seems the superteam is heading towards one of their most risky missions to date. It's going to be fascinating to see how Galactus' mother ties into the changes to Galactus and her role in the powerful villain's existence. Readers will meet Galactus' mother as Defenders #2 by Ewing and Rodriguez comes to comic book stores later this year.
