Jungle Cruise Releases 2 New Trailers For Dwayne Johnson & Emily Blunt’s Characters

Disney has released two new trailers a month away from the premiere of Jungle Cruise focusing on Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt's characters. The film, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, was supposed to open in theaters last summer. However, like many other films slated for a 2020 release, it fell victim to the setbacks created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Disney is preparing to release Jungle Cruise in theaters and on Disney+ July 30.

Jungle Cruise, set in the early 20th century, centers around a riverboat captain named Frank, played by Johnson. He's enlisted to take a British scientist, Dr. Lily Houghton (Blunt), and her brother McGregor Houghton (Jack Whitehall) on an adventure of a lifetime. Jungle Cruise also stars Édgar Ramírez, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.

And exactly one month ahead of the film, Disney has released two trailers that show the points of view of Frank and Lily. Each video gives a glimpse at both Blunt and Johnson prior to their unconventional first meeting. Both actors made hilarious intros to their character's trailers, making light-hearted jokes aimed at one another. They even butchered each other's names on purpose, with Blunt referring to her co-star as "Dave Gobson" and Johnson calling her "Ethel Brunt." Taking the most thrilling boat ride ever, Frank and Lily are in search of the Tree of Life along the Amazon river. A legend says the tree possesses healing powers that could benefit modern medicine. While Johnson's character appears skeptical about the journey in the new trailer, Blunt's living up to her Indiana Jones comparison with Lily's fearless attitude. The pair show off their back-and-forth banter and fighting skills, whether it comes to human threats or those from creatures lurking in the dark. And while previous trailers have unveiled the plotline, the new teasers give fans a more personal look at these larger-than-life characters and the origins of how they got together in the first place.

The release of Jungle Cruise been a long time coming. The adventure film is based on the classic Disneyland theme park ride and has been in development for nearly 10 years. In 2015, Disney announced its intention to redevelop the film proposal featuring Johnson, but his fellow cast members weren't brought on until 2018. The film is drawing comparisons to Disney's Pirates of the Caribbeananother theme park ride turned into a blockbuster film. And with A-listers like Johnson and Blunt at the forefront, the Jungle Cruise film could be the beginning of an adventure-filled franchise much like its predecessor.
