Lionsgate unveils the first set photo from John Wick 4 as filming gets underway on the highly-anticipated Keanu Reeves-led sequel. The film is once again being helmed by Chad Stahleski, though it will see a shift in the writing department as Shay Hatten and Michael Finch pen the script in favor of series creator Derek Kolstad. The Keanu Reeves-led action sequel is currently slated to hit theaters on May 27, 2022.
A fourth John Wick installment was discussed before Chapter 3's release and officially confirmed during its opening week, with a fifth film subsequently announced a few months later. Unfortunately, production on the title saw some delays due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Stahelski's commitments to working with Lana Wachowski on The Matrix 4, causing a delay in its initial release plan from May 2021 to next year. However, with a cast of franchise newcomers assembled, including Mortal Kombat's Hiroyuki Sanada, the film is just about ready to get underway finally.
On the heels of branching out its ensemble cast, Lionsgate has confirmed that production is underway on John Wick: Chapter 4. To celebrate the occasion, the studio has debuted the first photo from the action film set with a talent chair offering the first glimpse at the logo for the film. Not much else is revealed, but the chairback logo slightly changes the "chapter" formatting. Check out the image below:
The image may not offer much insight into what the story will entail for the fourth chapter in the franchise, but it proves to be enough of an exciting tease for fans of the series. Parabellum ended with quite the cliffhanger for Wick and his ally, The Bowery King, which many have been waiting to see how it is resolved. Though Ian McShane's Winston was the one who pulled the trigger than nearly sent Wick to his death, his continued devotion to the former assassin and knowledge of his bullet-resistant suit should create an interesting dynamic for John to have an inside man for the all-powerful High Table.
It's also interesting to note that the logo on the chair lacks the word "Chapter," with the number four resting solely between the character's first and last name. With only so much space on a talent chair, it can indeed be argued that it's a simple logistic design but marks an interesting potential change for the franchise. As filming is finally underway on John Wick 4, further reveals are sure to continue in the near future.
