The Captain America: Civil War debate just got more complicated as co-director Joe Russo adds Team Vision into the mix. Released in 2016, the film saw Iron Man and Captain America disagreeing on how to approach the Sokovia Accords. As it was, it's already challenging to choose a side as both heroes had valid points, but now, it just got more complicated with the introduction of a new faction.
Enforced by the United Nations after the Avengers' operations had left a trail of property damages and unintentional civilian deaths, the Sokovia Accords were meant to put the heroes in check. However, Steve Rogers didn't want it, arguing that the safest hands were still their own. Meanwhile, Tony Stark countered that without limitations, they're no better than the bad guys. He also added that at that point, it's best to take a reconciliatory route rather than be antagonistic about it. Unfortunately, the pair couldn't reach a middle ground resulting in the split of the Avengers.
It's easy to understand where Captain Rogers and Iron Man were coming from during the whole Civil War debacle, given their respective experiences. However, it's been years since the film, and it's still tough to choose a side objectively. But now, Russo just made things more complex by introducing Team Vision into the matter. Sharing a brand new video on Instagram during their visit to the Disney Hotel at Disneyland Paris, the filmmaker asks the public to choose among the three sides of the argument. It's worth noting that in the film, Vision sided with Team Iron Man, arguing that it's the most logical way to approach things. Aside from the initial discussion about the Sokovia Accords, he was mainly removed from the overall conflict. Instead, his character's story was focused on the burgeoning love affair between him and Wanda Maximoff. While Civil War didn't extensively tackle the progression of their relationship due to the film's time constraints, Marvel Studios made up for it via WandaVision. Despite his character's initial allegiance to Tony Stark, however, Paul Bettany has changed his mind and announced in the comments section of Russo's Instagram post that he's Team "VISION ALL THE WAY BABY."
Aside from the Sokovia Accords, however, what made the reconciliation between Tony and Steve, at least in the movie's duration, was Bucky's involvement in the death of Howard and Maria Stark. To protect his oldest friend, Captain America purposefully hid this information from his fellow Avenger, making their conflict personal. It's unclear if Vision or any other MCU hero, for that matter, found out about this after Captain America: Civil War. But if they did, it's curious what their stance was on the issue.
