The Voice: How Many Albums Jennifer Hudson Has Sold In Her Career

The world fell in love with Jennifer Hudson on American Idol, and many years later, this R&B superstar joined The Voice as a full-time coach for a total of two seasons. The world was introduced to Jennifer Hudson back in 2004, when she auditioned for American Idol season 3 and made it to the live shows. Unfortunately, however, other contestants earned more votes than J-Hud to stay in the competition, causing her to end up in seventh place overall. In any case, that placement didn't stop the singer from pursuing a career in music, film, and TV.

The biggest achievement that followed Jennifer Hudson's post-American Idol career was her role as Effie White in the 2006 musical film Dreamgirls. Jennifer Hudson would go on to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for that performance, instantly propelling her career to new heights. After J-Hud gained that Oscar prestige momentum, she was able to release her first-ever studio album, the 2008 self-titled Jennifer Hudson. On the other hand, Jennifer also kept her career alive when it came to acting in movies and TV shows. As such, she is celebrated as both a singer and an actress.

Between 2008's Jennifer Hudson, 2011's I Remember Me, and 2014's JHUD, Jennifer Hudson is estimated to have sold a total of 1.5 million albums over the course of her career. In addition, Jennifer has been nominated for as many as seven Grammy awards, winning two of them: Best R&B Album in 2009 for Jennifer Hudson, and Best Musical Theater Album in 2017 for The Color Purple. After her Academy Award-winning performance in Dreamgirls, Jennifer Hudson was featured in films such as 2015's Chi-Raq, 2018's Monster, and 2019's Cats. In 2021, she will play none other than Aretha Franklin in the upcoming biopic Respect.

When it comes to TV, most fans remember Jennifer Hudson as a contestant on American Idol season 3 and as a coach on The Voice seasons 13 and 15. In truth, J-Hud's first time on The Voice was all the way back in season 3, when she was brought in as a part-time advisor. But she only joined the show as an actual coach in season 13. Elsewhere, Jennifer had recurring roles on shows like Smash and Empire. She also appeared as a coach on The Voice UK seasons 6, 7, and 8 alongside mainstay coaches will.i.am and Tom Jones.

Jennifer Hudson is one of the most talented singers of this generation, and her casting as a coach on The Voice was perfect exactly for that reason. She is also an extremely versatile artist, which is very helpful to anyone pursuing a longterm career in the entertainment industry.
