Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani met because of The Voice, but many fans still don't know how things progressed between them filing for divorce from their respective significant others and then starting to flirt with each other on the show. When it comes to his love life, Blake Shelton was married to Kaynette Gern between 2003 and 2006. A few years after that divorce, Blake started getting to know fellow country singer Miranda Lambert. Blake and Miranda got married in 2011, and together, they were a very powerful couple within the country music industry. Alas, Blake and Miranda got divorced in 2015.
In turn, Gwen Stefani had a few high-profile relationships before meeting Blake Shelton on The Voice. She started out her career as the vocalist of the rock band No Doubt, and during those years, Gwen got into a relationship with bandmate Tony Kanal. Gwen and Tony were together for seven years, between 1987 and 1994. She then met Bush vocalist Gavin Rossdale, which would become her next partner in the years that followed. Gwen and Gavin got married in 2002, and after a 14-year marriage, they decided to part ways in 2014.
Gwen Stefani was first cast as a coach on The Voice season 7, which aired in 2014, right in the middle of her divorce proceedings. Blake Shelton had already been on the show since its very first season, so Gwen was theoretically just another pop star being added to the lineup of coaches. On the other hand, there were already rumors in 2014 that Blake's marriage with Miranda Lambert wasn't going so well. When Gwen returned for her second stint as a coach on The Voice season 9, which aired in 2015, she and Blake were already divorced... and they started to outwardly flirt with each other right there, on the show, in front of the entire world.
Things didn't become official for Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani until 2016. The rumor mill started when Gwen thanked Blake on Instagram for gifting her a horse. Then, during that awards season, Blake and Gwen made their red carpet debut as a couple. With that said, Gwen skipped two seasons of The Voice, as she only came back as an official coach for season 12. By that point, Blake and Gwen were one thousand percent official and didn't hide any of their infatuation with each other. Blake and Gwen's relationship became a legitimate storyline for the show, and it was as iconic as Blake's long-running bickering with Adam Levine.
After officially dating for four years, Blake Shelton proposed to Gwen Stefani in 2020, and she said yes. The couple wanted to get married as quickly as possible, but the COVID-19 pandemic ruined their plans. The event had to be postponed for the safety of all the people involved, but the couple is still very excited about putting together a beautiful wedding so they can celebrate their love story. At this point, it seems like Gwen and Blake's wedding party could happen in late 2021.
The Voice season 20 airs Mondays at 8 pm ET/PT on NBC.
