Gilmore Girls: 5 Times Rory Was A Snob (& 5 She Was Sweet)

Rory grew up with a single mother, a love of junk food and coffee, and bookworm tendencies on Gilmore Girls. She was a favorite resident of Stars Hollow, and everyone rooted for her to go to an Ivy League college and take over the journalism world. While she was a good person, she definitely struggled to get along with her peers sometimes, and she was more comfortable on her own than socializing too much.

While Rory had her moments when she acted holier than thou, she also had many Gilmore Girls scenes when she proved herself to be kind and full of compassion.

10 Snob: Felt She Was Better Than The Stars Hollow High Students

While Rory had a difficult first day at Chilton, being a student at the demanding institution was one of her goals, and she felt she was on a good path once she got in.

Even though Rory loved learning and it was nice to see her taking this big step, she was definitely snobby about her old school, Stars Hollow High. In the pilot, Rory judged her classmates for gossiping and chatting while she was spending class time working on the assignment. She smiled smugly to herself, and her overall vibe was that she didn't think she could learn much while at Stars Hollow High. Viewers didn't learn enough about the school to know if it was really that bad, though.

9 Sweet: Got Nervous Being Around Chilton Classmates At Her 16th Birthday Party

Rory had two very different 16th birthday parties, and she really hated attending the party that Emily threw. Since Emily invited Rory's Chilton classmates, Rory was nervous about being around them. They made her feel super insecure since she didn't know them and she came from a less well-off background.

This was one of Rory's sweetest moments, as fans felt badly for her and knew that she would rather be anywhere else than at a gathering with people she didn't even know.

8 Snob: Didn't Want To Be The Ice Cream Queen

When Taylor asked Rory to be the Ice Cream Queen in the fourth season of Gilmore Girls, Rory said no. She felt guilty about her rejection of Taylor's honor, asking her mom if she had become a worse person since leaving her hometown and attending college.

But, even though Rory didn't want to be mean, she treated Taylor rudely, and she should have appreciated what he did for her. She loved her town, and she should have been flattered and happy instead of acting like it was beneath her.

7 Sweet: Agreed To Lorelai's Wild Last-Minute Road Trip

In the second season episode "The Road Trip To Harvard," Lorelai told Rory that she wanted to go on a road trip. She gave Rory zero notice and didn't even share why she wasn't going to marry Max.

Rory showed her mom a lot of kindness and compassion by agreeing without too many questions asked. Sure, she got upset with Lorelai later on for not explaining herself, but she knew that this was how Lorelai was going to start the healing process. Not everyone would start packing a bag and jump in the car.

6 Snob: Judged Her Love Interests For Their Likes And Dislikes

From thinking that Logan's Life and Death Brigade was silly to slamming Dean's admiration for Donna Reed, Rory was often pretty judgmental about the things that her boyfriends liked.

While Rory was right to worry that Logan would get hurt, she could have tried to understand his love of adventure and fun better. While Rory did come around and cook Dean a retro dinner, she wasn't very nice about his desire to have a calm, happy family life someday in the future.

5 Sweet: Felt Judged By Logan's Family

While Rory and Logan loved each other, Rory never felt accepted by his family, especially his father, Mitchum. Mitchum told Rory that she didn't have it in her to be a journalist, and Rory believed him. She also felt terrible after dinner with Logan's parents because the general consensus was that Rory wasn't rich and therefore wasn't good enough for Logan.

Fans felt badly for Rory in these scenes, and she proved that she was always a sweet, vulnerable person who wanted to treat others well and receive the same respect in return.

4 Snob: Felt Harvard Was The Only Option

Rory might have decided to go to Yale instead of Harvard, but, for a while, Harvard was the only school in her mind that was worth going to.

Why did Rory feel that Harvard was the only potential college she could attend? While it's great that she had dreams and loved to learn, she was a bit snobby here, as there are so many excellent schools that deserve to be considered, too. The Ivy Leagues aren't the only way to get a good education, but Rory never seemed very open-minded about her future.

3 Sweet: Helped Paris After Her Breakdown

In the third season, Paris told the whole school that she slept with her boyfriend Jamie, and she got really upset. Rory was shocked, along with everyone else, and Paris didn't go to school for a few days after that.

In the episode "A Tale of Poes and Fire," Rory proved that she was an amazing friend and a sweet person by visiting Paris at home. She helped her see a way out of her sadness and allowed her to see that she could still have a great future even though she wasn't going to Harvard.

2 Snob: Didn't Think Lindsay Was A Good Wife For Dean

At the end of season four, Gilmore Girls fans were surprised when Rory slept with Dean, as he was married to Lindsay. Before this happened, Rory insisted on being friends with Dean again, even though Lindsay said that she didn't feel comfortable with that.

It was Lindsay's right as Dean's wife to admit her feelings on the subject, but Rory judged her. She acted like a snob, as she didn't feel that Lindsay was the right wife for Dean, and she didn't think much of their marriage.

1 Sweet: Cried When Tristan Kissed Her

There are several Rory and Dean episodes that fans feel nostalgic about. After Dean broke up with Rory in season one, she went to a party, and Tristan proved his crush on Rory by kissing her.

Rory got really upset and even cried afterward, and this was a moment when she was a kind-hearted, vulnerable, sensitive person who was going through a tough time. Tristan realized that she was in a bad place after her split and that nothing was going to happen between them. Rory could have been mean to Tristan, as he teased her for a long time, but she understood he was nicer than others thought.
