A Black Lady Sketch Show Teaser Gives Season 2 Release Date

Dr. Haddassah Olayinka Ali-Youngman is back with a teaser trailer for A Black Lady Sketch Show season 2 that reveals its upcoming release date. Created by Robin Thede and produced by Issa Rae, the narrative sketch comedy centers Black female comedy writers and performers. ABLSS premiered on HBO in 2019 and was nominated for three Emmys. Filming for season 2 was delayed during the height of the ongoing COVID pandemic but resumed in time for the show to return this spring.

HBO posted the teaser for ABLSS season 2 on Youtube today with a caption promising an April 23 premiere. This season will stream on HBO Max in addition to airing on HBO. In the video, Thede announces the show's return in character as the pre-PhD formerly known as Haley, who's finally finished with her sister's season 1 wedding toast and is now ready to take on HBO and the pandemic. Watch the teaser below:

Gabrielle Dennis and Ashley Nicole Black (Full Frontal With Samantha Bee) are both returning for season 2 along with new additions, Laci Mosley and Skye Townsend. Quinta Brunson, a core cast member in season 1, unfortunately couldn't make filming due to scheduling issues. Lauren Ashley Smith is head writer with a staff that includes Black, Rae Sanni, Akilah Green, Holly Walker, Kindsey Young, Shenovia Large, and Kristin Layne Tucker. Guest stars for this season include Gabrielle Union, Jesse Williams, Ayesha Curry, Miguel, Omarion, Kim Wayans, Skai Jackson, Laz Alonso, Lance Gross, and Wunmi Mosaku.

No information has been released about what the sketches in A Black Lady Sketch Show season 2 will get into, but fans can probably expect at least one familiar character to return after her appearance in the teaser. Like season 1, this follow-up focuses on "Black women living relatable, hilarious experiences in a magical reality that subverts traditional expectations" and will contain six episodes.
