The first photos from the set of Thor: Love and Thunder show that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will finally pay off Yondu's legacy, all thanks to Kraglin. Now that the Infinity Saga has come to an end with Spider-Man: Far From Home after the big events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the MCU is ready to move forward with its phase 4, which will now also include TV shows that will link directly into some of the upcoming movies in this connected universe. On the movie side, the MCU will welcome new characters like the Eternals and Shang-Chi, and will give new adventures to previously introduced characters, among those Thor.
After a rough start with Thor and Thor: The Dark World, the God of Thunder went through some much-needed changes and development in Thor: Ragnarok, which allowed him to return for a fourth movie, in which he will count with the help of other superheroes. Titled Thor: Love and Thunder, the movie will see Thor teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy, the introduction of Gorr the God Butcher (to be played by Christian Bale), and the return of Jane Foster, who is set to take on the mantle of the Mighty Thor. Along with the Guardians comes Kraglin (Sean Gunn), a member of the Ravagers who stayed by Yondu’s side until his death, and who in one of the post-credits scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was teased to be taking Yondu’s place.
In that scene, Kraglin was practicing with the Yaka Arrow – a whistle-controlled arrow Yondu used a couple of times during his time in the MCU – and a new controller, but he wasn’t that skilled yet and ended up accidentally stabbing Drax, after which he retreated. Kraglin returned to help the rest of the MCU heroes in the Battle of Earth against Thanos and his armies in Avengers: Endgame, but he will have a proper return in Thor: Love and Thunder, and a recently released batch of set photos show him all suited up and with a new addition on his head that carries on with Yondu’s legacy: the Yaka fin.
In order to control the Yaka Arrow, Yondu wore a prosthetic metal piece on the top of his head, known as the Yaka Arrow Controller (or, simply, Yaka fin due to its shape). Yondu wore two variants of it, with Kraglin wearing the second, longer version in the aforementioned post-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but when he showed up during the Battle of Earth, he was wearing a shorter version, more similar to the first design of the fin, but that mostly went unnoticed. Now, with Kraglin being part of Thor: Love and Thunder, the MCU can pay off Yondu’s legacy through Kraglin and show what he has been doing with the Ravagers and how he’s been doing with the Yaka arrow and controller, as the last time viewers saw him use it he wasn’t exactly the best at controlling it.
It’s unknown which rank Kraglin has now among the Ravagers now that Yondu is gone, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he has taken the lead, and hopefully, he has learned how to use the Yaka arrow responsibly. The big cast of Thor: Love and Thunder doesn’t only promise a lot of action and humor but also makes way for the development of minor characters like Kraglin and it’s a good opportunity to finally pay off that tease in the post-credits scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 before the third movie comes out.
