Superman Fan Game Is Exactly What DC Should Make After Suicide Squad

A Superman-inspired game has been making the rounds on social media and it looks pretty incredible. The Man of Steel has had a pretty troubled history outside of his comics from cinematic bombs to lackluster games, it's safe to say WB doesn't really have any idea what to do with the character.

Superman's last proper video game was with Superman Returns in 2006, meaning two whole console generations have passed since then. The character has been linked with massive gaming failures such as the infamous Superman 64 which is widely regarded as one of the worst games ever made. While Returns wasn't as abysmal, it sits at a very underwhelming 51 on Metacritic. This was enough for WB to move away from the character in the gaming space indefinitely. Despite the superhero genre having a strong comeback with Spider-Man and the Batman games, Superman is nowhere to be found.

This has led to fans taking things into their own hands. Three Japanese students released a free game on Steam called Undefeated in 2019 and it's near-identical to a Superman game, minus the red and blue suit. The game puts players in the shoes of a rather regular looking guy who can fly at breakneck speeds, unleash superhuman abilities on enemies, and more. There are even boss battles that see players taking to the sky to duke it out, not too dissimilar from the finale of 2013's Man of Steel. Footage of the game has been circulating on social media (via @Ablazaluis), causing new interest in the title.

It's currently rather barebones as the city is empty and the activities are a bit limited. Still, for a free game from just three students that could serve as a concept for an actual Superman game, it's pretty incredible. One can only hope that Warner Bros will see the potential in something like this and reach out to these developers to help develop a Superman game.

The beloved DC hero will be making an appearance in Rocksteady's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League where he'll be a villain. Superman appears to be under some sort of mind control in the game and the likes of Harley Quinn and Deadshot must work together to bring down the superhero. Other heroes like Batman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash may also show up as antagonists if the title of the game is anything to go off of. It's not clear whether or not this could lead to a potential Superman game afterwards but there's clearly a lot of interest in such a thing.
