Weapon Camo Skins Removed In Black Ops Cold War Bug | Screen Rant

Players celebrating their holiday by grinding through deathmatches in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War are finding that their hard-earned weapon camos are at risk of disappearing thanks to a nasty bug that's been around since the game's launch. While the newest entry in Activision's long-running FPS franchise may be somewhat overshadowed by the continued success of Modern Warfare and its Warzone mode, there are plenty of players enjoying the 1980s-themed entry in the series. The game has the standard trio of Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies alongside adding in support for Warzone via unique weapons and unlocks.

This mixture of Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War has been somewhat controversial among the most diehard players of Call of Duty's version of battle royale. Some have stated that there's overlap between the arsenals of the two games, leading to confusion when it comes to weapon attachments. Others have stated that the newer guns from the 2020 game are balanced weaker than Modern Warfare's existing firearms, making their inclusion in the mode pointless. This all comes on top of its own set of bugs and glitches, as the integration of two completely different FPS games into one mode is likely a technical challenge.

Even if one were to stick just with Black Ops Cold War, there's plenty of bugs to be had there. In one of several Reddit posts on the subject, players are complaining that camos they've unlocked for their guns are being taken away due to a bug in the game's lobby system. The glitches come from the game's challenge system, which keeps track of various achievements on the battlefield. For guns that are already completed, the game will sometimes reset challenge progress and take away the camos from that progress, even if the player already has that skin equipped.

The developers at Treyarch haven't been resting on their laurels since the game's release on November 13. The first season of cosmetics for the game has begun, and there have already been several patches to work through other problems with what came out on day one and balance the game's assortment of weapons. Still, because of Warzone's sustained popularity (and its free to play release), players have been sticking with last year's edition of Call of Duty. Modern Warfare has had three times more players than Black Ops Cold War, which is an unprecedented feat in the history of the franchise.

While there's plenty to like about Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it seems that there's also plenty that needs fixing before it can achieve its full potential. That's been a trend with bigger releases for a while now, and it seems especially prevalent in 2020. From the disastrous launch of Marvel's Avengers to the buggy console release of Cyberpunk 2077, the state of a world under lockdown has certainly affected video games at the highest level. It was hard enough releasing something as complicated as a multiplayer-focused live game on the cutting edge of technology, and it's hard to envy anyone who has to try to do it from their bedroom.
