The news that Tesla has re-imagined its leasing experience has placed renewed focus on the company's lineup of lease-able vehicles. The Tesla Model S was notably the first vehicle to be available through the company's direct lease program. It's still a perfectly viable option for potential Tesla drivers today, though the price can escalate quickly, depending on the options chosen.
The Model S was unveiled in 2012 as a completely electric sedan with impressive range. Today's Model S has an estimated range of 402 miles from a single charge, while also boasting the ability to go 0-60 miles per hour in just 2.3 seconds. According to Tesla, top speeds for the all-wheel drive Model S can reach 163 miles per hour. In addition, 15 minutes of charging is enough to get the electric vehicle driver back on the road and en route to their destination.
The price to lease this kind of luxury electric vehicle is steep. Including a $7,500 down payment, leasing the Model S Long Range Plus will cost $1,092 per month for 10,000 annual miles on a 24-month lease and $899 on a 36-month lease. Increasing the annual miles to 12,000 raising the monthly price to $1,120 on 24 months and $917 on 36 months. 15,000 yearly miles results in $1,148 per month over 24 months or $935 over 36 months.
Opting for the Model S Performance will run a driver $1,247 each month for 10,000 miles/24 months, $1,199 for 10,000 miles/36 months, $1,504 for 12,000 miles/24 months and $1,223 for 12,000 miles/36 months, $1,541 for 15,000 miles/24 months and $1,247 for 15,000 miles/36 months. Finally, the Model S Plaid will cost $2,504 monthly for 10,000 annual miles over 24 months, $2,005 for 10,000/36 months, $2,448 for 12,000 miles/24 months, $1,969 for 12,000 miles/36 months, $2,504 for 15,000 miles/24 months, and $2,005 for 15,000 miles/36 months.

All of these lease options are typically considered to be high prices to pay for the everyday buyer. Without a doubt, many people would love to drive the Model S Plaid, which features a tri motor all-wheel drive setup capable of reaching 200 miles per hour and an estimated range of 520 miles. That being said, few would be able to justify paying as much as $2,500 per month to drive such a remarkable vehicle.
The comparatively slower alternative is the Model S Long Range Plus, which instead tops out at 155 miles per hour and the standard 402-mile range. It's also far more affordable, offering 15,000 annual miles over a 36-month annual lease for just under $1,000 monthly. While that is still expensive, a family could conceivably lease a pair of Model S Long Range Plus cars for the same cost as a single Model S Plaid. Although that's not cheap, choosing to lease the Model S Long Range Plus offers a kind of value that other iterations of the Tesla Model S simply can't match
