Dragon Age's Game Awards Trailer Needed To More Story Or Gameplay

BioWare recently released a new trailer for the next Dragon Age game at The Game Awards 2020, and while the video was beautiful, it created more questions than answers for those who have been waiting for concrete Dragon Age news. It has been six years since Dragon Age: Inquisition released, and this trailer is the first update fans have had on the game since The Game Awards in 2018, when Dragon Age 4 was announced. With two full years gone and nothing to show but a short trailer of pretty scenes, fans deserve more.

The lack of solid information on what the new Dragon Age game will be about seems only to back fans' worries about the news of prominent staff leaving the BioWare team. Many are concerned the loss of crucial developers and writers may result in a flop with the next Dragon Age game. BioWare needed to show the current writers' skills in order to reassure fans the new game will be worth the wait.

While it may seem pushy to ask BioWare for more when it comes to Dragon Age, fans have good reason to be concerned. Many are still feeling the frustrations that came with the release of Mass-Effect: Andromeda. The much-anticipated installation in the Mass Effect series was a total flop, riddled with bugs, less-than-stellar graphics, and a story that many found frustrating and full of holes. Because of this train-wreck of a game, BioWare has a lot to prove so that fans won't be worried about what the developers may try with the next game in another beloved series.

One thing BioWare did confirm during the trailer that may have peaked interest for fans, however, is the that it's dropped the "4" in Dragon Age's title. While the trailer did seem to confirm at least one returning character, Solas, this title change could mean the game isn't a direct sequel to the previous ones. Such a change could be met with frustration or excitement, depending on what the developer releases next about its storyline. If the new Dragon Age leaves the old narrative behind, players may get to see parts of the Dragon Age world they haven't yet had a chance to explore.

Whatever BioWare decides to do in the future, the fact remains that the trailer released at The Game Awards 2020 should have held so much more. Hopefully in the near future, players will get an update on where Dragon Age's next installment will be set, as many fans have theories about it being set in Tevinter, Dorian's home from Dragon Age: Inquisition. But for the time being, Dragon Age is confirmed to still be in the works, and with luck, gameplay and character designs may be released soon to offer fans a respite from the desert that has been new information on the game these past few years.
