Free content is coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War as the Season One update draws nearer, and players will be able to collect cosmetic loot bundles by just logging in. There are two different bundles, each packed with different goodies players can use to customize their operators and weapons.
Activision announced last week that the Season One update had been delayed from December 10 until December 16, and the fast-approaching update is set to go down as one of the biggest in franchise history. The brand-new update is largely seen as the way forward in order to maximize the potential of Black Ops Cold War, the franchise's latest release. After receiving positive reviews initially upon full launch, the game's low review scores seem to indicate that fans are beginning to feel restless. As for Warzone, it continues to be enjoyed by loyal players but there are consistent calls for new content to refresh the gameplay. Enter the Season One update.
According to the Call of Duty Twitter account, the deal concludes at 11 PM PT on December 15. The Certified Bundle features a "Barrio" Garcia skin, Ground Patrol Assault Rifle blueprint, and an Epic reticle and weapon charm to top it all off. Meanwhile, he "field research" bundle includes a "Scorch" Park skin, excavator SMG blueprint, abyssal discovery calling card and more.
It is clear that fans are craving new ways to play Call of Duty. There is evidence to suggest that the new direction is working so far too. For example, over 6 million users played Warzone during the first 24 hours of its release. All of this has generated excitement for the upcoming update. As part of Season One, Warzone is receiving Black Ops Cold War base weapons, blueprints and new maps, including what is very likely Rebirth Island. This is expected to add a new twist to how the battle royale plays out. Additionally, Black Ops Cold War is getting new maps, fighting modes and the long-awaited return of the 2v2 Gunfight.
The Season One update is unlike anything the franchise has ever done before, introducing new content to both Black Ops Cold War and the battle royale, Warzone. Despite continued lucrative earnings, Activision generated over $500 million through microtransactions on 2019's Modern Warfare and Warzone, the future trajectory of the franchise is largely dependent on the success of Season One. A heavy emphasis will be placed on how fans react to the largest free content launch in Black Ops history.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
