Why Overcooked: All You Can Eat Is So Much More Chaotic on PS5

The kitchens of Overcooked have always been chaotic, frequently a few seconds away from bursting into flames. The release of Overcooked: All You Can Eatbrings the game to the PlayStation 5, as well as a suite of new features specially tailored for the PS5 DualSense controller.

Overcooked: All You Can Eat is a special remaster of all previous Overcooked content. The game bundle includes the original Overcooked, as well as Overcooked 2 and all DLC levels released for both games. The original Overcooked has been rebuilt in the Overcooked 2 engine to bring it inline with newer content and make it available to play online with friends. Overcooked: All You Can Eat also has seven new levels exclusively available in the collection.

PlayStation Blog has detailed how the developers of Overcooked have taken advantage of features offered by the PS5 DualSense controller to add enhancements to the game experience. On the simplest level, the DualSense lightbars will change color to match their controlled character, and the in-built controller speakers will emit the same warning beeps as the in-game audio to warn players when a dish is about to be, well, overcooked. But the biggest enhancement will come from the DualSense's directional haptic feedback. The controllers will vibrate to alert players to several different conditions, including when a dish is ready, when an order was successfully delivered, and when something has caught fire. In the cases when an alert applies to only one side of the kitchen, only one side of the controller will vibrate.

The enhancements added to Overcooked: All You Can Eat will both add to and lessen the chaos of the game. On the one hand, increased beeping from the DualSense controller, as well as haptic feedback warning players when a recipe is about to expire or when time is running out on the level will increase the stressful input players are receiving about their impending culinary doom. But the directional feedback could add a helpful element to the game. Normally, when a dish is in danger of burning, players are alerted by the beeping and have to frantically look around for which dish has the flashing warning icon. Directional haptic feedback will help point players in the right direction when searching for the latest source of disaster.

Overcooked: All You Can Eat is the latest game to take advantage of the PS5 DualSense to bring unique experiences to PlayStation games. NBA 2K21, for instance, will introduce more resistance into the DualSense triggers as fatigue builds in the basketball players. Spider-Man: Miles Morales will use directional haptic feedback to warn players of the direction of an in-coming attack. With many players looking to decide if and when to get a next-gen console, the features added by the PS5 DualSense are a nice plus to consider.
