There’s a critical issue in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that prevents players from progressing further until they roll back to an older version by reinstalling the game. That’s pretty serious for a title that’s been out in the wild for just a few days so far.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla released a couple of days ago to a fairly positive reception with critics praising it for masterful implementation of its beautiful open world and a lesser emphasis on RPG mechanics. According to some reviews, the game is closer to its action-adventure predecessors rather than the most recent entries, which is thought to be a favorable change. Still, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is being criticized for being relatively buggy, which has just received another confirmation from players.
On the Ubisoft forums, multiple reports have emerged claiming that there’s a broken quest in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla preventing players from making progress. The quest in question is called “A Seer’s Solace,” and as one of the first main story missions, it literally locks gamers from advancing further in Valhalla. Apparently, the recent patch 1.0.2 is to blame for this game-breaking issue, as going back to version 1.0.0 seems to solve it. Players have discovered that completely uninstalling the game and then installing it back again from a disk with the Internet connection turned off helps to finish the mission, after which it is possible to safely update the game to the latest patch. Those who are stuck with a digital copy of the game, unfortunately, do not have the luxury of rolling back to an older version. Ubisoft is seemingly aware of the issue, as a support manager promised to contact the development team in regards to the game-breaking bug, which ultimately confirms that the title has some major technical issues despite its ambitions.
Despite the existing issues, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla improves on the previous AC games in several ways. For instance, the franchise has dropped its unfair pay-to-win microtransactions that were present in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, although there are still numerous in-game purchases, all of which are strictly cosmetic. The process of world exploration in Valhalla works slightly differently as well. While players again have to climb to viewpoints to unlock new areas of the map by removing the fog, the revealed information keeps a bit of mystery for upcoming discoveries to be genuinely intriguing.
The game-breaking bug in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will likely be patched out much sooner than later, but for such an ambitious title, it is definitely a troubling sign. Discovered early in the game, the issue might be followed by multiple new ones in the future, especially considering the fact that it was introduced through a patch rather than in the vanilla version. It basically means that the technical state of the game could further deteriorate with subsequent updates initially designed to fix and improve the experience.
