Why Ahsoka Left The Jedi Order In Clone Wars | Screen Rant

Ahsoka Tano left the Jedi in Star Wars: The Clone Wars after losing faith in the Order. Introduced as Anakin Skywalker's Padawan in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated film, the character's story continued through various animated shows from Lucasfilm. Despite only being an animated character, though, Ahsoka has become one of the most beloved characters in the entire franchise - spanning even the live-action movies.

Prior to the rise of the evil Empire, the Jedi were esteemed members of the society, working hand-in-hand with the Republic in ensuring peace across the galaxy. They were committed to their responsibility and devoted to their cause. The prequel trilogy highlighted how only a chosen few were admitted into the Jedi Order, with Anakin struggling to fit in the organization despite being the Chosen One. In the current Star Wars canon, quitting the Jedi Order is a rare phenomenon, which makes Ahsoka's decision more intriguing.

In Clone Wars season 5, Ahsoka was framed for a crime she didn't commit. She was wrongfully accused of being involved in the bombing of the Jedi Temple hangar, as well as other homicides. Eventually, her name was cleared, with the revelation that it was her friend and fellow Padawan, Barris Offee, who was behind the crimes. This allowed her to return to the Jedi Order after being forced out, but instead of gleefully reclaiming her spot (and being promoted to Jedi Knight), Ahsoka left the Jedi Order. This decision stemmed from how the Jedi Council handled the situation. Knowing that it was that easy for them to turn on her, despite her proven commitment, she became disillusioned and opted to walk away from an Order she didn't fully believe in.

The Jedi pride themselves on always having a good grasp of things, and yet when it came to it, they couldn't properly handle an investigation concerning one of their own. After being a faithful member of the Jedi Order who was dedicated to following their code, Ahsoka was quickly cast aside, stripped of her rank, and presumed guilty in the aftermath of the accusations against her. She was barely given any benefit of the doubt despite her solid track record as a Padawan. Had it not been for Anakin's own efforts to prove her innocence, the Jedi Council wouldn't have even bothered giving the case a second look. In many ways, the Jedi Order felt no different to the Empire - there was no real concern from the members of the Council; everything was transactional and Ahsoka realized there was a better use of her time than to serve an organization that treated her and its other members as indispensable.

In hindsight, what happened to Ahsoka in Clone Wars helped Anakin's turn to the dark side be much more believable. He watched first hand how the Jedi Council could be wrong with their beliefs and actions, and not take full accountability when proven wrong. He also saw how ruthless they could be; easily throwing a member under the bus without carefully examining the facts. As for Ahsoka, her departure from the Jedi Order turned out to be the right choice; if she stayed with them, she may have also fallen victim to Order 66.
