Pro speedrunner Anthony Caliber has left Nathan Drake actor Nolan North to pick his jaw up from the floor after a sensational speedrun of Naughty Dog’s epic Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. An action-adventure classic from 2011, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is part of the most popular series of games in recent memory, coming from the same acclaimed Sony studio behind The Last of Us Part II.
In Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, players shoot, swim, and climb (and climb and climb) their way through incredible settings and mind-bending cutscenes. From London to Yemen, the non-stop action throughout the game made it an immediate favorite among critics and fans alike. Naughty Dog games are famous for their visceral storytelling and characters, and the in-game dialogue is always both funny and endearing. That is thanks to not only to the script of the game, but the actors behind the characters. Mo-cap and voice actor Nolan North is the man who brought hero, Nathan Drake, to life in all four of the Uncharted games.
On Nolan North's Retro Replay YouTube channel, where he's been keeping fans entertained with his own walkthrough of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception alongside fellow Uncharted series stars, he most recently hosted professional speedrunner Anthony Caliber. He joined Nolan North for a Retro Replay exclusive, to show off his skills by beating Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception in a devilishly short time. With the aid of glitches and exploits, Anthony used his knowledge of the game to fly through the entire playthrough in an astonishing 2 hours and 19 minutes, a feat even for the seasoned speedrunner. Nolan North’s face throughout the two-part speedrun is one of constant awe and disbelief. Caliber makes Nathan Drake defy the laws of physics by hopping through brick walls and moving at a speed that would make The Flash himself blush, so the mo-cap heavyweight's amazement is certainly warranted.
The calibre of Anthony Caliber’s gameplay in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is truly astounding. In addition to this speedrun, he also holds world records for two other Naughty Dog games, The Last of Us and The Last of Us: Left Behind. As cool as it probably was North to watch a talented fan's dedication to his work pay off live, Caliber was justifiably and joyfully starstruck by the unique opportunity to hang out with one of gaming's most prolific actors.
Speedrunning certainly is not everyone’s cup of tea, as it requires an immense time commitment to a single game. To obtain the seamless knowledge of a title that allows a player to exploit its glitches and save points as Caliber showed off in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, speedrunners must dedicate a lot of patience and sore thumbs to the cause. However, the results though are absolutely worth watching - especially when combined with the added commentary from one the a voice as famous as Nolan North's.
