There are now rumors circulating that Nvidia could be preparing to launch a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti GPU option soon. This is in spite of the company only having just unveiled a trio of new graphics card options. Adding to the intrigue, the leak seems to have come from a Lenovo product listings page, suggesting that the Legion T7 is likely to be one of the laptops equipped with a Ti version of the RTX 3070.
Nvidia GPUs are highly sought-after and after weeks of teasing the launch, the company announced its newest RTX additions this week. In total, there’s the GeForce RTX 3070, 3080, and the 3090. As the numerical number goes up, so does the specs, as does the price, making the GeForce RTX 3070 the cheapest option of the three. Arguably, at just $499, the RTX 3070 is a bargain GPU.
As reported by PC Gamer, a recent Lenovo posting for various Legion T7 models seems to have leaked the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. The listings show more than one model all boasting the currently unannounced GPU and while this could simply be a typo, the specs associated with the RTX 3070 Ti are different to the non-Ti version. In other words, there would have to be more than one typo in the doc. What’s more, since reports of the Ti-equipped models went live, and screenshots were taken, Lenovo seems to have completely removed those models from the listings page.
When Nvidia announced the RTX 30 series, much of the attention was understandable on the RTX 3080 and 3090 models. Naturally, these are the more powerful options and therefore, likely to be considered the better options. However, what made the RTX 3070 so appealing on further digest was the fact that it largely outperforms the RTX 2080 Ti in most areas, even though it is the ‘budget’ option. As a result, the suggestion that a Ti version of the RTX 3070 could now be coming is all the more appealing. For example, while the memory type won’t change from the standard RTX 3070, the memory size will effectively double, up from 8GB to 16GB. This coupled with the existing RTX 3070 specs would ensure the Ti version not only outperforms the non-TI version, but also the RTX 2080 Ti, in every department.
Some words of caution, however. Firstly, there’s no guarantee that a RTX 3070 Ti is actually coming. While the Lenovo leak would suggest the company expects Nvidia to launch the new version, and although the listings were removed instead of being updated (as would be expected with a typo), there is little corroborative evidence, outside of some minor mentions on social media. Furthermore, the price also remains an unknown. Although, with only a $200 difference in cost between the new RTX 3070 and the equally new RTX 3080, it would seem likely an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti would fall somewhere in between.
