Mutants Join The MCU In House of M Movie Fan Poster | Screen Rant

The mutants join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a House of M fan-made poster. Since Disney's historic acquisition of Fox's movie and TV assets, fans have been on the lookout when Marvel Studios will start incorporating the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and their tie-in characters into the franchise. While Kevin Feige and his team are still mum about the matter, that hasn't stopped the franchise's loyal followers from coming up with plausible scenarios like the one propositioned by a new fan-art.

After the Infinity Saga, the MCU has been forced into an extended hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead of kicking off Phase 4 back in May with Scarlett Johansson and Cate Shortland's Black Widow, the franchise is currently in limbo, waiting to see how things shake out in the next few months regarding the global health crisis. This has resulted in a scarcity of any official update from Marvel Studios, but fan conversations continue — in fact, they're more creative than ever as the public attempt to predict what the future lies for the MCU.

Digital creator empyre.art floats the idea that a House of M project is in the cards for the franchise through a new illustration. Led by Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), the fan-art includes some of the remaining prominent heroes in the MCU, as well as, several mutants who played a pivotal part in the narrative in the comic books. It's also worth noting that the image does not reflect the recent news that Tatiana Maslany has been cast as MCU's Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk, nor the possible recasting of X-Men characters like Magneto. Nevertheless, it's still a cool concept. Check it out below:

For the uninitiated, the House of M comic book narrative features a delusional Scarlet Witch who loses control of her ability to alter reality. On the heels of a  nervous breakdown after losing her two kids with Vision, she accidentally creates an alternate reality where her family is royalty, and the mutants are under the reign of Magneto. Admittedly, as popular the 2005 print storyline is, it's quite convoluted, with many moving pieces and complications.

While this doesn't mean that Marvel Studios are shying away from adapting it to the screen, they'll have to make some necessary adjustments to make it palatable to non-comic readers while still honoring the original source material. Perhaps, they're already planting the plot seeds for a possible House of M project in WandaVision, which revolves around Wanda living a normal suburban life with Vision (Paul Bettany) despite the Android's death in Avengers: Infinity War. Further backing this idea are several implications that the pair's kids, Billy and Tommy Maximoff are slated to debut via WandaVision.

While a House of M Marvel Cinematic Universe project is not off the table, it will be quite a while before it happens. The franchise has a confirmed Phase 4 slate until at least 2022, with a few more films in the pipeline that have yet to be given release dates. It's also possible that Marvel Studios might not immediately utilize the mutants to create a bit of separation between their version and Fox's take on the characters. Given their massive library of characters, they have the luxury to do this. If ever they push forward with a House of M endeavor, however, it needs to be an event film considering the popularity of the narrative when it first came out in print.
