Iron Man's New Armor Is Actually Vintage Marvel | Screen Rant

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Iron Man #1

Tony Stark is done with 2020, determining to go in a brand new direction as Iron Man. Deciding to go back to basics, Tony starts a new, simpler chapter of his life in an all-new series from writer Christopher Cantwell. A big part of that is going to be ditching the copious amounts of new technologies and frequent upgrades that make him one of the most powerful beings on the planet. Instead, Tony's looking to temper his ego, wanting to put the "Man" back in Iron Man. Part of that includes a new, but classic-looking suit.

In the beginning of the issue, Tony sells his company for 65 billion dollars, of which he quickly reinvests a third of that exist package back into the markets. He also sells his house in Malibu, choosing instead to live in a brownstone in New York. During interviews and questions, he keeps saying that he's trying to "recalibrate" himself, wanting to go back to his roots and figure out exactly who he is. However, he's been taking a beating on the internet, as he keeps looking at Marvel's versions of Twitter and Reddit, getting nothing by negative feedback and hate.

One person that actually seems in care is Trish Walker, Hellcat, who has been reported to be a recurring character in Cantwell's series, helping Tony stay grounded and keep his ego in check like he's trying to do. After spending some time with her at a party he's throwing, Tony decides to show Trish his new suit in the middle of Iron Man #1.

The new suit is actual a slightly revamped look on Iron Man's classic look from Marvel Comics' Golden Age, which totally fits considering Tony's desire to go back to basics. Readers can even see Tony's actual eyes behind the helmet, a feature that hasn't been seen in years, let alone the modern era of Iron Man. Trish even comments that the suit is vintage, which is a perfect description. Together, the two of them hit the town, stop some crime, and even have a heart to heart about all of the confusion Tony's been struggling with.

The best thing about Iron Man's new (or is it old?) look is how reminiscent it is to Alex Ross' drawings from stories such as Marvelswhich details the history of the Marvel Universe from the perspective of a civilian photographer, and included depictions of said Golden Age version of Iron Man. Considering that Ross himself is doing the cover art for Cantwell's series, the style and aesthetics of Tony's suit in the series is a pretty nice touch and homage.

In any case, fans who were tired of Iron Man always topping and one-upping himself with new tech and thereby constantly inflating his ego as a result should be looking forward to this new series. It's clearly a status-quo changer for the Armored Avenger.
