Fall Guys is teasing its latest update, which will add increased anti-cheating measures as well as dynamic new obstacles. One of these obstacles, Big Yeetus, was teased a few weeks ago. Big Yeetus is a giant spinning hammer that can spawn and launch players across maps, either giving them a huge speed boost or ruining their progress completely.
Fall Guys is a cultural phenomenon, combining the inherent popularity of the battle royale genre with a wonderful cartoonish art style, fun, Mario-esque obstacle courses, and adorable jelly bean player characters. The game has achieved massive fame and some truly staggering player numbers, and even now, over a month after it launched, it's still going strong. Unfortunately, it hasn't all been good news for Fall Guys. The game has a rather severe cheating problem on its hands. Players routinely complain about opponents taking flight and soaring over the map, landing safely at the finish line while everyone else struggles to catch up. Developer Mediatonic has been working hard to address this issue, and recently promised that it was working on a method of taking more immediate action against hackers.
This action is likely coming in the new update, which Mediatonic lovingly refers to as "Big Yeetus and Anti-Cheatus." The update was announced through a tweet on the official Fall Guys Twitter account, which comes complete with screenshots to give fans a sneak peek at what they can expect. In addition to the titular Yeetus and its associated anti-cheat software, Mediatonic is heralding the arrival of the Watermelon Crew, which appear to be massive watermelon-shaped obstacles that roll downhill, threatening to crush any jelly bean caught in their path. Check out the preview below.
The announcement didn't give fans a solid idea of when to expect the new update to arrive, but odds are good that it won't be long. The tweet also doesn't go into any detail about what sort of measures Mediatonic will be taking to prevent and/or ban cheaters, but it's hard to imagine that the developer isn't taking the phrase "anti-cheatus" seriously. With any luck, players can expect to see a lot less cheating in the future, which is good, because as the game stands now, fans have had to sabotage their own team in order to get rid of a hacker.
Fall Guys' cheating problem is a chronic one, and fans have needed relief for a long time now. Cheaters make the game less fun for everyone involved, and they're rightfully reviled by just about every aspect of the gaming community. If Mediatonic can introduce serious, long-term measures to keep cheaters out of the average Fall Guys match, and throw in Big Yeetus and the Watermelon Crew to boot, then this update should be one to look forward to in a big way.
Fall Guys is available on PlayStation 4 and PC.
