Hunters Season 2: Release Date & Story Details | Screen Rant

Last Updated: August 5, 2020

Does Amazon plan to release Hunters season 2? Here's what we know so far about the show's renewal status, its potential return date, and where season 2 might take the story next. Created for television by David Weil, Hunters is based on historical events but includes fictional twists, as a team of Americans track down Nazis in 1977 New York City. The 10-episode Hunters season 1, co-produced by Jordan Peele, released in full on February 21, 2020.

Hunters season 1 explores the consequences of Operation Paperclip, a real-life program in which various German scientists moved to America and helped the United States during the Cold War. For dramatic purposes, the Amazon Prime series takes an alternative history approach, as Holocaust survivor Meyer Offerman (Al Pacino) forms a Nazi-hunting team for "The Hunt," with young Jonah Heidelbaum (Logan Lerman) joining the squad after the murder of his grandmother, Ruth (Jeannie Berlin). Hunters season 1 co-stars Kate Mulvany as Sister Harriet, Josh Radnor as Lonny Flash, Louis Ozawa as Joe Torrance, Tiffany Boone as Roxy Jones, and Carol Kane as Mindy Markowitz - all of whom are part of Meyer's titular unit.

During the Hunters season 1 finale, Jonah learns that he didn't live up to Meyer's expectations. Specifically, the young Nazi hunter chose mercy over vigilante justice while pursuing a target in the penultimate episode. This sets up a shocking reveal when Jonah learns a significant history lesson, and makes a decision that will change everything. In the final moments of the Hunters season 1 finale, another big revelation sets up a huge storyline for the next season. Here's everything we know so far about Hunters season 2 on Amazon Prime.

Amazon originally gave Hunters a 10-episode series order, and as of August 3, 2020, has officially renewed it for season 2. Overall, Hunters season 1 has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, according to Rotten Tomatoes, but hasn't been an overwhelming hit. Still, the series includes an impressive ensemble cast and clearly has the potential for a multi-season run.

When Hunters season 2 ends up releasing on Amazon Prime all depends on when the show is able to restart production. Some productions have finally resumed, but with the Coronavirus still a worry, it remains to be seen when Hunters season 2 will begin filming. If production does start before the end of 2020, it's possible we could stream season 2 by late 2021.

In the Hunters season 1 finale, Jonah proves himself to Meyer by locating the Nazi doctor Wilhelm Zuchs aka The Ghost. However, something doesn't feel right when the Hunters' leader kills his long-time enemy. but doesn't recite the Kaddish prayer he often spoke of in the past. Meyer then reveals himself to be none other than The Ghost himself, having assumed the real Meyer's identity after being arrested by the Soviets during World War II. Upon paying for a new "mask," Zuchs committed to the Jewish faith and essentially woke up from a "coma of hatred" after an enlightening conversation with Ruth. He then formed a Nazi-hunting team, hoping to make up for past sins.

Jonah kills The Ghost, thus ensuring that Pacino won't be back Hunters season 2. Unsurprisingly, the titular squad is shocked by the revelation, and assume that Joe left to begin a new chapter in his life. In reality, however, Joe was hit by a car, kidnapped, and taken to Argentina - which leads to one more big twist: Adolf Hitler is alive, along with his wife Eva Braun (Lena Olin), who was known only as The Colonel throughout Hunters season 1. Expect Hunters season 2 on Amazon Prime to take place all over Europe and South America, as numerous real-life, high-ranking Nazis did indeed escape to Argentina after World War II.
