Fortnite Gets Cars, Trucks, & Radio Stations In Huge Joy Ride Update

It has been a long time coming, but Fortnite's Joy Ride update has turned Battle Island into a scene from Fast and Furious with the addition of cars, trucks, and radio stations. After announcing that cars would be added to Fortnite at the beginning of season 3, players have waited for weeks to get behind the wheel of a proper vehicle. Now, Fortnite has added a fleet of vehicles for players to choose from to cruise around the map in style.

The addition of cars was teased in the Fortnite season 3 trailer and was confirmed by Epic Games that they would be added after the water flooding the map had receded. The update fittingly named Joy Ride had seen two delays over the course of season 3 before it was finally released. This came as no surprise as Fortnite has delayed several big events recently. Seven weeks into Chapter 2 Season 3 and players finally have access to four different high-octane models of cars.

The official Fortnite trailer is a cinematic gameplay video of the cars featured in the Joy Ride update. Four vehicles are being introduced in the update, including semi-trucks, pick-up trucks, two-door sedans, and four-door sedans. Each model has its own stats, including health, the number of passengers it can hold, and how much fuel it can carry. Unlike other vehicles in Fortnite, cars are a lot more complex.

While other vehicles in Fortnite have health bars and weak points, none operate on the same technical level as cars. Cars require the player to fuel them at gas stations, and if a car is damaged they will leak fuel. As well, if a player's wheel is damaged it will pop and make the vehicle less reliable. Fuel consumption rates also vary between vehicles, as well as the damage dealt to structures and players by vehicles.

The Joy Ride update definitely spices things up for Fortnite and adds a lot more variety when traversing the map. It has been months since Fortnite has seen an update this game-changing, and the addition of cars and trucks breathe new life into Battle Island. While the experience may not be on par with Grand Theft Auto or Forza, cruising around the island while jamming to the new radio stations may be all Fortnite needs to revitalize its player base. There will be plenty of clips in the coming days of streamers and content creators showing off all of the wacky stunts that can be pulled off thanks to the new Joy Ride update.
