Rick And Morty has featured any number of fake adverts, but few were as disturbing as its Lucky Charms parody commercial. Dan Harmon created cult sitcom Community, which attracted a loyal following shortly after its 2009 debut on NBC. Harmon's run on the show wasn't always smooth sailing - which includes being fired from season 4 before returning for the final two series - but its mix of comedy and great characters saw it become a beloved series.
He struck gold again with Adult Swim's Rick And Morty, which he co-created with Justin Roiland. Rick And Morty debuted in 2013 and follows genius scientist Rick Sanchez as he drags his poor, innocent grandson Morty on his insane, dimension-hopping adventures. The series has really blown up since its first season and is littered with great gags and references to other movies and shows, with Back To The Future being the most obvious.
Rick And Morty has featured many fake TV commercials and movie trailers during its run, including Real Fake Doors or blockbuster Jan Quadrant Vincent 16. The series has never shied away from shocking violence or disturbing scenes either, such as season 4's "Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat" showing the wasp version of the Smith family eating the Larva Mr. Goldenfold alive. When it comes to one of the show's most disturbing advents, however, it's hard to beat the Lucky Charms parody ad from season one.
Rick And Morty's "Rixty Minutes" sees Rick install interdimensional cable in the Smith house, allowing access to bizarre shows and commercials from other dimensions. This includes Strawberry Smiggles, a parody of both Lucky Charms and Trix. This advert sees leprechaun Tophat Jones declare he's going to eat an entire delicious cereal box of Strawberry Smiggles and not share them with anyone, and he's very satisfied when he's finished. There's when two dead-eyed children show up, with the little girl brandishing a large butcher knife.
They hold down Tophat Jones and proceed to graphically slice him open and dig into his stomach to eat the cereal. Tophat - in agonizing pain - questions the logic of this since the Strawberry Smiggles are now coated in his stomach acid, but they just keep eating regardless. Morty is shocked by the violence of this commercial but Rick is unfazed, claiming that to sell cereal they need to "pump the gas" a little. This Lucky Charms-inspired advert clearly worked too, since later Rick And Morty episodes see the Smith family eating Strawberry Smiggles for breakfast.
