Mass Effect Trilogy Art Book Will Feature All-New Art & Commentary

An art book for the original Mass Effect trilogy will feature all-new art and commentary. A rumor in May 2020 surfaced suggesting EA possessed an undisclosed HD remake of the Mass Effect trilogy, though, that speculation was never confirmed by the publisher. A job listing at BioWare also hinted at the possibility of either a new Mass Effect or Dragon Age, the latter of which is known to be in development.

The latest release in the Mass Effect universe, Mass Effect: Andromeda, released in 2017 and received heavy criticism from fans. An executive producer at BioWare even admitted Andromeda was a “deeply flawed game.” However, love for the original trilogy spurred fans to give the latest entry a chance, despite the massive disappointment that followed. That disappointment was the result of rushed development given BioWare’s desire to move on to the development of Anthem, which also had a deeply flawed launch and remains a great disappointment to many fans – to the point that BioWare plans to overhaul the game altogether.

A listing on Amazon makes a new art book for the original Mass Effect trilogy available for pre-order, featuring all-new art and commentary. The listing’s description claims the art book “delves deeper than ever into the sci-fi saga that changed video games forever.” Fans who get their hands on the art book will be exposed to new material from all DLC for all three games. The artwork takes fans through the design process for the trilogy’s different sentient life, ships, and other content from beginning to end.

The hardcover is 272 pages and is scheduled to release on February 23, 2021. It’s set to be published by Dark Horse Books and weighs 1.2 pounds. The book is also available in a Kindle edition. It is priced at $39.99 and $23.99 for the Hardcover and Kindle versions, respectively. Those who pre-order the book now are guaranteed the price when it launches, meaning placing a pre-order means consumers will not be charged a higher price in case it increases after the book is published and shipped.

Creating a new art book with additional commentary for the original Mass Effect trilogy lends credence to the rumor that EA and BioWare are working on an HD remake of the games. If the companies want to salvage the franchise’s reputation, that would certainly be a good step in the right direction. BioWare’s own rap has been tarnished by Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, and the developer needs to employ an immense amount of damage control and knock their next release out of the park to win back some of their fans and avoid closure. Gone are the days of Jade Empire, Knights of the Old Republic, and Mass Effect 1 through 3, but there is still hope for the experienced company. Maybe this art book is the beginning of a resurgence of a return to a more trustworthy BioWare.
