30 Rock: Top 10 Things Fans Want From The Reunion | ScreenRant

On July 16, 2020, the cast of 30 Rock will reunite for a highly anticipated new episode. The series ended its original run on NBC in 2013, where it earned glowing reviews and loyal fans for its portrayal of the behind-the-scenes mayhem on a fictional late-night show on the very real network.

In typical 30 Rock fashion, the reunion will not just be a regular episode of the series, but also a way for NBC to roll out its new fall shows. 30 Rock was always a TV show about TV shows, so this reunion is expected to be yet another marriage between the surreal worlds of TGS and NBC. Here are ten things fans want from the coming reunion.

10 NBC Jokes

30 Rock simply would not be 30 Rock without its meta sensibility. The premise of the reunion, that the characters are involved with NBC's actual fall rollout, is already an incredibly meta premise, but fans also know that leaving it at that would be far too simple for the creators of this show. Fans can also expect plenty of jokes about Peacock, NBC's new foray into the streaming wars that did not yet exist when 30 Rock originally aired. It's also safe to assume there will be plenty of references to Zoom as well, as the cast will be working together remotely.

9 Political Humor

30 Rock was always a show with a penchant for political humor. It makes sense; before Tina Fey created 30 Rock, she worked as head writer for Saturday Night Live, which is known for its parodies of prominent political figures. That said, 30 Rock went off the air in 2013 and hasn't had the chance to weigh-in on the post-Obama political world. While this reunion episode probably won't be completely about politics the way some of their previous episodes have been, some scattered references are a pretty safe bet.

8 Guest Stars

It has already been confirmed that the main cast members are all returning for this special episode. However, 30 Rock was also known for its colorful array of supporting and guest characters. Grizz and DotCom seem like likely inclusions to round out Tracy's entourage. Devon Banks, Jack's nemesis at NBC played by Will Arnett, also seems like a logical inclusion given the episode will be about NBC specifically. Fans can remain hopeful that other favorite characters like Dr. Spaceman and D'Fwan will find a way to stop by; the special will run for an hour without commercials, giving the show plenty of time to spotlight some zany side characters.

7 The Catchphrases

Among 30 Rock's many impacts on popular culture is the shocking amount of catchphrases that it has brought into our lexicon. From "blerg!" and "mind grapes" and "I want to go to there" and "nerds!" 30 Rock has remained one of the most quotable shows ever created. While inserting these phrases into an episode of TV could border on fan service, but if any show could figure out how to do fan service tactfully, it's 30 Rock.

6 Tracy And Jenna As Frenemies

One of the best, and often overlooked, aspects of 30 Rock was the relationship between Tracy and Jenna. These two characters are known for their need for constant attention, and how jealous they would get when they thought one was being favored over the other.

This relationship was constantly mined for its comic potential, and that comedy is something that should be present in the reunion episode. Whether they are competing for a part in a new NBC show, or have some kind of conflict that happened in the past seven years, their dynamic is something fans should look forward to.

5 Liz's Kids

In the penultimate episode of the series, Liz Lemon finally achieves her years-long goal of adopting children. The kids are named Terry and Janet, and as TGS comes to a close, Liz gains something else to pour her energy and love into. Because these characters are introduced so late into the series, the audiences never really got the chance to get to know them. Since the reunion takes place seven years after the end of the series, making Janet and Terry teenagers, there is a better chance they may appear and the audience can learn more about them.

4 Jack's See-Through Dishwasher

In the 30 Rock finale, Jack almost gives up on his life in New York City to sail around the world to find true happiness. However, he changes his mind at the last possible moment when he comes up with his best idea yet: a see-through dishwasher, so you can see what's going on inside. In the epilogue, we see that Jack has finally become CEO of GE, the job to which he aspired for the entire series. However, we never actually got to see the invention that got him the job. The reunion is a chance for that to happen.

3 Grizz's Sitcom

The final episode of the series also revealed that after TGS ended, Liz went on to produce a sitcom starring Grizz called Grizz & Herz. Six years later, it wouldn't be unreasonable for his series to still be running on the in-universe NBC.

Based on the little bit of Grizz & Herz that we were privy to in the finale, it seems that Kenneth had given active input into the show, adding further interest in watching how this show may have played out.

2 Original Music

One of 30 Rock's most notable features is its use of music throughout the entire series. Not only was the show scored by Jeff Richmond's jazz-influenced soundtrack, but it also featured several original songs throughout the seven seasons. Fan favorites include Jenna's song "Muffin Top," Tracy's novelty Halloween track "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah," and "Rural Juror," the song Jenna sings in the finale to bid TGS goodbye. With so many notable musical moments, fans can be optimistic that there will be some new music in the reunion.

1 Kenneth In Charge

Speaking of Kenneth, audiences last left the world of 30 Rock with Kenneth devotedly running NBC. We learned in the last few minutes of the episode that he is, in fact, immortal. While his immortality doesn't change his role only seven years later, it would be interesting for audiences to get a peek at his long term plans. It's also safe to assume that Kenneth will be a master of ceremonies for the reunion, as the goal of the meeting is to unveil the new programming that will be on his network.
