In the much anticipated Selling Sunset season two, Christine Quinn is engaged to her new beau, Christian Richard, but hid it from all her coworkers slash friends. The others within The Oppenheim Group are questioning why Christine kept her engagement a secret, especially from Mary Fitzgerald, her supposed closest friend.
Season two begins with Cristine getting off a plane after her long vacation and stepping into a luxurious Rolls Royce with her husband to be, Christian. We get it Christine, you’re bad and boujee. The others on the show can’t help but wonder why she kept her engagement a secret until now. Christine only told Davina Potratz about her engagement via email while abroad on her Eat Pray Love-esque vacation. Davina shared the information with others at The Oppenheim Group which was appalling to everyone, especially Mary, Cristine’s best friend. So, why did Christine hide her engagement from everyone at The Oppenheim Group?
While the answer isn’t as crystal clear as Christine’s engagement ring, there are several reasons that explain why she hid her engagement. One reason is the drawn out tension between Chrishell Stause and Christine which lasted nearly all of season one. The end of Selling Sunset season one left viewers hungry for more after a heated argument between Christine and Chrishell. Both women had good reasoning in the argument, but Christine wouldn't back down leaving the others feeling sympathetic for Chrishell. Christine may have felt some type of animosity from the others and therefore didn’t want to share her engagement news until she was back in town.
Another plausible reason is the fact that Christine heavily judged Mary for her rushed engagement with Romain Bonnet. After harsh criticism, Christine did the same thing with her fiance. It’s entirely possible that Christine didn’t want to tell the others for fear of being labeled a hypocrite and having to face the same judgment that Mary endured. Mary even comments on the fact that Christine did the exact same thing as her after harsh backlash.
Finally, a conversation between Heather Rae Young, Mary and Chrishell in the first episode of season one discusses the pretenses of Christine’s relationship with Christian. The new couple met because Christine was showing houses to Christian. At the time, Christian was seeing another woman and left her for Christine. Chrishell brought up the point that if Christian cheated for Christine, what would stop him from cheating on Christine too? While this is a good point, we don’t know enough about Christine and Christian’s relationship to determine if cheating is a factor. Although, this might be another reason why Christine hid the news of her engagement. Christine claims that they spent so much time together while travelling and have become very close, so hopefully their bond is different than others they’ve had before.
Christine didn’t want to tell the others about her engagement to Christian because of her bad blood with Chrishell, her prior judgement of Mary and the pretenses of how she met Christian. But, out of all the people on Selling Sunset, Christine is the most mystical and wild, but she also embraces her prima donna realness. Maybe there’s more to why she didn’t tell everyone about her engagement. Perhaps she didn’t want to be even more vulnerable around her peers. Alternatively, maybe she wanted to save the news until after her vacation with Christian was over. Even though Christine can get under your skin at times and she's easy to judge, she’s human too and sometimes her bizarre ways have more meaning than we know as viewers. Ultimately, its her choice when to disclose information about her relationship and her friends should respect that. As the Selling Sunset season two continues, perhaps more will be revealed about Christine and Christian’s engagement.
