Star Wars: Detailed Look at Sith Trooper Blaster From The Rise of Skywalker

One concept artists offers a detailed look at the Sith trooper blaster from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The highly anticipated film may have arrived back in December, but its massive amount of content means many Star Wars fans are only now beginning to explore it deeper. Due to its status as the final film in the sequel trilogy (and the final film of the Skywalker saga), a certain amount of pressure rested on the shoulders of not only Lucasfilm and Disney, but also director J.J. Abrams. Much has been said of the new world Abrams and Rian Johnson created in the previous films, Star Wars: The Force of Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

What’s more, fans were already quite divided on the quality of Johnson’s The Last Jedi. Abrams response was to create a film so packed with action and detail that picking it apart is likely to take years – much like some of the Star Wars films that have come before it. This is great news for fans that love to dissect each and every aspect of the Star Wars films. What’s more, The Rise of Skywalker also offers plenty of new weapons – something that’s always a draw for those interested in a deeper exploration of the Star Wars universe.

The latest bit of study for Star Wars fans comes courtesy of Matthew Savage, a concept artist who worked on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Savage has offered numerous close up and highly detailed photos of the Sith trooper blasters used in the film, via his Instagram account. The weapons are showcased in a variety of different ways, from a carbine to a fully modified rifle, as well as an explanation from Savage that the final design of the Sith trooper blaster was created after going back and forth from 2D drawings to 3D prototypes. You can check out all the images below:

The Sith troopers are a particularly unique group of soldiers, exclusive to The Rise of Skywalker. Their all red armor is a stark contrast to previous incarnations of stormtroopers, and their devotion to the Sith order places them in the dangerous category of cultists, utilizing any means necessary to advance their cause. This specific blaster is incredibly versatile, allowing for the stalk to be removed (which is visible in the above photos) and also providing the option of a removable under slug proton torpedo launcher. In addition to this weapon, Sith troopers also carried a larger repeating blaster, though one look at this weapon is enough to illustrate how truly well armed the Sith troopers were.

While the debate over whether Johnson or Abrams handled the Star Wars universe the best will continue forever, too great of a focus on this will ultimately take away from the worlds that both filmmakers created. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might have its faults, but it also has plenty of things to appreciate and explore. These Sith blasters might represent a small detail, but they are just one aspect of many that talented artists labored over in order to ensure the intricate Star Wars lore continues to exist.
